You Can't Build a Good Team From Free Agents, and How the White Sox Got to Chicago
Taking a cue from phastphil over at A's Nation, I decided to do what he did for the A's for the Sox.
Using the 25 man plus select members of the 40 (plus my boy). Year, outside of those drafted, is year of first appearance for the organization. Here's how the White Sox were built:
Draft:
Mark Buehrle (38th Round, 1998)
Boone Logan (20th Round, 2002)
Joe Crede (5th Round, 1996)
Brian Anderson (1st Round, 2003)
Adam Russell (6th Round, 2004)
Josh Fields (1st Round, 2004)
Lance Broadway (1st Round, 2005)
Charlie Haeger (25th Round, 2001)
Jack Egbert (13th Round, 2003)
Amateur Free Agent:
Ehren Wassermann (2003)
International Free Agent (distinction without a difference?):
Alexei Ramirez (2008)

Scott Linebrink (2008)
Toby Hall (2007)
AJ Pierzynski (2005)
Pablo Ozuna (2005)
Jermaine Dye (2005)
Jason Bourgeois (2007)
Trade:
Jose Contreras (with cash for Esteban Loiza) (2004)
John Danks (with Nick Masset and Jacob Rasner for Brandon McCarthy and David Paisano) (2007)
Gavin Floyd (with Gio Gonzalez for Freddy Garcia) (2007)

Orlando Cabrera (with cash for Jon Garland) (2008)
Paul Konerko (for Mike Cameron) (1999)

Danny Richar (for Aaron Cunningham) (2007)
Mike MacDougal (for Daniel Cortes and Tyler Lumsden) (2006)
Jerry Owens (for Alex Escobar) (2005)
Waivers:
Bobby Jenks (2005)
Rule V Draft:
Dewon Day (from Toronto) (2006)
Since a good deal of this was from memory, corrections are welcome and the post will be edited accordingly.

Unfortunately, too busy to do this myself
so I’ll throw the idea out there to people who may have an opportunity to check it out.
For teams more respected in the area of international free agent signings (Twins?), how many signings have they had in the past 5-10 seasons? What does their “how the (insert name of team) got to (insert name of city or geographical area)” look like?
I read the link to the roster construction of the A’s, and it seems that the A’s also have a poor reputation for signing international free agents. There was a mention of a Mariners roster project, but I didn’t have the time to search it out.
Obviously, I think it would be interesting to look at the roster construction of a few teams that have good reputations for signing international talent and how it affected the shape of their organization.
Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.
