White Sox to be cautious with top pick
Certain players might be deemed as less-than-feasible options, though, based on the thought of unreasonable contractual demands.
"It's not just because the name is Scott Boras.
"If the financial demands are such that they are higher than we value a player, then it could be Scott Boras or Scott Baio. If they tell us a guy wants $15 million, and we only thinks he's worth $3 million, then we probably won't draft him."
"History tells us which agents have unfair demands, in our opinion," Laumann said. "But again, it's not just about Boras. We have a fiscal responsibility."

That's great
“It’s not just Boras, there’s tons of other agents we won’t deal with either!”
So, who wants to convince me that the Sox are wise not to go above slot value? My immediate reaction is that the Sox undervalue the worth of top amateur players.

I love how the Sox will give out millions to mediocre and bad players...
like Pierzynski and Uribe but they won’t pay up for talent that will likely blow away players who are currently on our roster. Makes sense.

Ya gotta love reading this stuff right before the draft...
What a bunch of cop-out bullshit.

They are getting the excuses ready
So when they pass up on a Smoak or Alvarez to pick up say a Jordan Danks they can talk about the value versus the pick.

This team wonders why its farm system is in disarray...
...you get what you pay for!

i don't put a lot of stock in this "statement"
written by Mouthpiece Merkin, so I take it to be a pre-emptive shot to future negotiating opponents, regardless of who they draft. Kind of a, “I don’t want to pay a lot for this muffler!”
Its not necessarily a statement of drafting intention. It’s been a long time since the Sox drafted this high, so I don’t think we can necessarily draw conclusions from how they operated before.
