Baseball America's Mock Draft: May 16
8. WHITE SOX. Chicago GM Kenny Williams wanted better position players for his farm system last year—and then the White Sox selected pitchers with their first six picks. That won't happen this time around, with bats such as Beckham, Alonso, Arizona State first baseman Brett Wallace and Stanford catcher Jason Castro available. Smoak would be in that group as well if he hadn't found a taker.
Projected Pick: GORDON BECKHAM.

I honestly see no justification
in the Giants taking Smoak. Unless they think he can play a corner outfield position(he can’t) they already have their first basemen of the future. I think it’s more likely the Giants take an upside high-schooler, or Gordon Beckham. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tim Beckham or Alvarez fell to them.
I don’t see Gordon as a match with what Williams has been allegedly been looking for in this draft.

Uber prospect Angel Villalona
He hasn’t hit much yet but he’s turning 18 later this season.

He's too far off...
to really be able to project. He’s certainly not someone the Giants can count on (yet).
They should take whoever the best available talent is, whoever that may be.
