Before we focus on tonight's game.....

just a note that Aaron Poreda had another solid outing today for WInston-Salem…..7 IP, I ER.

poreda

5/17: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 2 BB

The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

Again, that stat line screams "Good fastball" to me.

Well, that or lucky. But he’s been maintaining a pretty low hit rate for a while now, so it’s probably not luck.

I want to thank the Cleveland Indians for not keeping Ryan Ludwick around...

Nice to see him doing quite well for the Cardinals…

Royals lock up their young closer Joakim Soria...
Royals signed RHP Joakim Soria to a three-year contract with options for 2012, ‘13 and ‘14.
It’s rather odd that Soria would give the Royals all of the option years like that, but they’ll probably be under pretty favorable terms. Unfortunately, Soria has been so good this year that it appears unlikely that we’ll ever see what he could do as a starter. He certainly has the varied arsenal to get through lineups three times per night. Soria, who turns 24 on Saturday, just gave up his first two runs on Thursday, but he recorded the save anyway, making him 11-for-11 on the season. If the Royals keep him in the closer’s role, he’ll probably be an elite reliever for a long time.

Yeah, I heard on WSCR 670 that...

Uribe will likely be out until Tuesday, although he may pinch-hit tomorrow. Crede is out tonight with general aching and soreness. The guy on The Score made sure to note that it wasn’t from his back.

That lineup it fucking hot.

Hard line drive for an out, a home run and a walk yesterday. Today another single, and a walk so far. Of course.. it’s the Giants so you take it with a grain of salt, but you can see what he can hopefully do some day.

Couple of comments

Was I the only one who didn’t know that a runner getting hit by the baseball (i.e. the Ozuna play on Dye’s grounder) results in a hit for the guy at the plate?

Also, Jerry—did you have tickets for any of the games this series? You’ll have to forgive me for being sort of ignorant of the west-coast… are you not that close to it?

Even though the Sox are up early, this has been a pretty miserable start. Dye’s had some horrendous at-bats, and that half-swing on the 1-0 “changeup” (Zito’s changeup looks average at best—I’ll have some more comments on him (not that anyone cares) in the post-game thread) was particularly pathetic.

"Miserable" was a bit of an exaggeration on my part

I’m just a bit miffed that the Sox have had a shot to knock Zito out of here early and haven’t come through with that ‘big’ base-hit (Swisher and Dye’s at-bats, namely).

Actually I'm encouraged by the start so far

Having good at bats for the most part. I didn’t like JD’s, but I think he thought 1-0 he’d get a fastball. Not the worst assumption.

It really was

pretty neat he was able to get so much on that throw. Combine that with some of his double-play turns as well as that spin-and-throw from CF earlier in the year and he’s really flashed a plus-plus arm in the field. I’m still getting a read on the other aspects of his defensive play.

Well...

that probably was a good thing, all things considered.

The Giants weren’t going to be contenders anyway, and Williams was asking for a lot.

yeah no kidding.

it was Sanchez and one of the ‘07 draft picks as a PTBNL, iirc. what a haul that would be.

Ramirez

I can see why he’s a player that scouts love. Too bad he’s not a bit younger.

I weas reading about Robert Veesco today, who just recently died

(Google it). One of his proteges, who is from Cuba wa quoted in the article. The columnist described a Cuban cigar the guy showed him that was in the shape of a phallus, with testes attached.

They must have excellent genetics in tobacco growing in Cuba.

I took the "under".

The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

The strategy of not scoring many runs, thus keeping Zito in, is really working for us.

Zito is lucky...

that this lineup is so terrible.

A major-league lineup would have six or seven runs by now.

After Cabrera grounds out to short...

That’ll be eleven runners left on base in five innings. Ugly.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on May 17, 2008 9:41 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Hawk just said

“unless something funny happens (which I assume would be a base hit) we’re gonna strand two more runners”

Time to get Zito his first win.

This is pathetic.

gonna out-energy a lot of guys, simply by over-attituding them

The Giants announcers...

are giving Zito all sorts of credit for his outing. They don’t understand how pathetic this offense is.
