Pierzynski to SF fans: You still suck
San Francisco's attempt at an icy reception didn't impress Guillen or the fans' intended target.
"That was lame," said Pierzynski with a laugh, after pointing to one persistent critic behind the White Sox dugout shortly after Bobby Jenks finished off his ninth save. "I got booed better in Anaheim than I did here. I got booed better when I played here than I did now. It was weak.
"I wanted it to be way better. I wanted to tip my cap, and it didn't even get to that level. When you get booed as much as I do, it doesn't bother you at all. It usually gives me a good laugh, but tonight was a lot weaker than I thought. I was expecting more."

I’d personally like to encourage those road crowds to keep on booing! Thanks for helping the Sox’s cause!

Update on the JRE/Keith baseball-reference bet
The team OPS+ sits at 98. It’s pretty interesting because looking up and down at the starting lineup, I see about one guy who’s close to where he’ll be (OPS+wise) at the season’s end - that’s Jermaine Dye who’s sitting at a 124 OPS+. That may be a little high, but I’d guess if he’s able to stay relatively healthy he’ll finish about five or ten points lower than that. But will the improvements from Konerko, Thome, Swisher and Cabrera be enough to cover the declines from Pierzynski, Crede and Quentin? Swisher and Quentin will probably cancel each other out, so it’s Konerko and Thome vs Pierzynski and Crede—in that respect age doesn’t look to be on my side.

Either way...
I think it will be close.
This offense is better than I expected it would be. Part of that, of course, is that at the time I expected that Jerry Owens would be a major part of the offense.

This may be a pretty obvious and not-necessary-to-state observation, but...
our bet will probably hinge on just how good Carlos Quentin is. I think we can agree that he’s not a 160 OPS+ player, but I think there’s a non-terrible chance that he’s anywhere from a 125-140 OPS+ player, which I’m pretty sure is considerably better than his ‘true talent’ level that The Hardball Times adjusted for him about a week ago. Then again, maybe I’m just getting caught up in the Quentin love-fest. Admittedly, it’s pretty hard not to.

Fired Sox scouting director was on fast track
Williams and other Sox staffers would not elaborate on details of the investigation because it is ongoing. Williams wouldn’t say if financial improprieties were involved, but a source with knowledge of the probe said there were questions regarding the manner in which signing bonuses were distributed to Latin American prospects. Investigators were seeking to determine if Wilder and dismissed scouts Victor Mateo and Domingo Toribio were skimming from those bonus payments.http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/cs-080517-white-sox-fire-wilder-scouting-director,1,7373042.storyAn MLB investigator confirmed to the Tribune on Saturday that the probe involved skimming and that it currently is limited to the White Sox.
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

Maybe this is why we have no good Latin prospects...
These douchebag scouts were keeping the money for themselves!

“There are probably others who have done it and there may be others who do it, but we don’t view it as widespread or organized in any way,” he said.
