I like that Lineup
Other than Swisher should be switched with Ocab. Can’t wait for the lottery and this game.

Yankees Pitching
Is thin. Imagine how we’d feel if Mike Mussina was our 3rd best starter.
by madvillian on May 20, 2008 6:41 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
coming into the game he...
had an ERA under 4 and a WHIP in the top 12 in the al.
"For those that don't understand stats... that ops is horrifying."
by Toonderstrook on May 20, 2008 6:49 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
a 39 year old
with a ERA+ of 101 in 47 IP. Wang is clearly better maybe Pettite is a slight age to Petitte for being 3 years younger. Followed by 60 some innings of Ian Kennedy/Igawa/Hughes none who have an ERA+ over 50.
by madvillian on May 20, 2008 6:57 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, everyone knows their backend sucks
i’ll still take mussina. he’s probably younger than our #3.
by larry on May 20, 2008 6:59 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
that wasn't the question anyway.
the question was how we would feel if mussina was our 3rd best starter. there was no mention in there of him being around long-term (hence the age is irrelevant aside from a potential increased risk of injury) or that we’d have to have 4 and 5 guys who are way way way below league average.
"For those that don't understand stats... that ops is horrifying."
by Toonderstrook on May 20, 2008 7:02 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
well, that's if you want to parse away the whole their pitching is thin part
which i’m perfectly happy to do.
by larry on May 20, 2008 7:03 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
yea
context is usually irrelevant. Why would you parse the title from the body. Wierd.
by madvillian on May 20, 2008 7:05 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
because the two statements taken together don't make sense?
as evidence of thin pitching you use mussina as a #3?
by larry on May 20, 2008 7:10 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
the big issue right now seems to be his inability to go deep into games.

gristle for jim and cowley
from reifert:
Pregame
Members of the team got together on the outfield grass before stretch to see a special video. The piece, snagged by Toby Hall, showed outfielder Brian Anderson working out with his personal trainer during the offseason. It was classic BA and classic “dig me.” I can only imagine the abuse BA is going to take from his teammates, and in classic BA style, he is going to smile the entire time.
“Jeez, that’s a lot of work just to sit on the bench,” one sympathetic on-looker mentioned.
“When I played, I just drank beer in the offseason,” one manager said.

Can we get a little Bulls chat going mid-thread
re: Rose versus Beasley? I don’t know how objective I can be… I’m completely partial towards point-guards who can really do magical things with the ball (i.e. Chris Paul), and I think Rose can be that good. That’s not a knock at all on Beasley.
I take it those two are the only ones who are in the running here, or is Mayo also worth being talked about?

I’ve been too Blog-a-Bull and while I like Matt’s posts, I usually don’t learn a whole lot from ‘the masses’.
I really hope drafting Rose would mean bye-bye to Gordon… I swear that anything he does on offense is negated by the fact that he’s completely useless on the defensive end (okay, no more Bulls talk).

I am in disbelief. Anyway…I’m 95% sure they’ll take Rose based on their roster set-up now. And he’s a hometown boy. Personally, I hope they take Rose because I’ve been watching him since high school and dreamt of him playing for the Bulls.
On the other hand, I wouldn’t be unhappy with Beasely. He’s a monster.
