2.5 games up

Feels a lot less comfortable than 3.5. Let’s get back up there.

I must say I wouldn’t have minded trying to catch lightning in a bottle with Wise, instead of Brian “Slider in the dirt” Anderson. Weaver is not a good match for Brian. Scioscia really stacked it with powerful(but free swinging) righty bats.

doesn't look good

The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

Sox will chase Weaver from the game

before he completes 6 innings today. Just one of those feelings (that I will regret posting, no doubt). I know why others baffle the Sox, but Weaver really shouldn’t.

It must be

that cutter he uses instead of a 4-seam. It seems to eat our player’s bats up.

Paulie getting a well unearned day off.

It’s kind of nice to get a Saturday afternoon game for once. It seems like that hasn’t happened for us much this year.

Rosenthal mentions Joey Cora...

Cora

should be managing Seattle right now. He’s always been known as a guy who will be a manager.

If the Mets fire Willie during the season...

Jerry Manual would probably take over on an interim basis. I’d like to see him get another shot at managing.

Day game,

I am unable to watch due to MLB Game of The Week and it is frustrating. Looks like I have not missed much however. I t befuddles me how any major league batter can be consistently lost against slower pitching unless the hitters consistently over swing.
Adjust your stance, choke up and use all fields-that’s what we tell our players.

It didn't benefit him to swing in that instance

He’s a career .368/.373/.676 on first pitch vs. .323/.389/.575 overall…

Where as ML hitters were .344/.349/.551 on first pitch last year vs. .268/.336/.423

Vlady just hits… He doesn’t really gain any advantage by swinging first pitch in that situation

Comment section goodness
“Ive believed this for quite a while. The White Sox made the worst offseason move in team history in bringing in Jim Thome. Yea hes good, he’ll nock a couple over the fence and drive in a few, but he totally destroyed the 05 champs Sox philosophy on small ball, You know you’ve hurt a team when you go from champs to missing the playoffs in one year. After they got thome, they thought they could walk to any ballpark and win it on 3 run homers. WRONG, the games changed, you dont see teams in the playoffs these days who rely on the long ball. The white sox failed to see that after getting thome. I dont want to pin it all on him, since the pitching wasnt that good either in 06, but he killed the philosophy.

by Daniel Berlyn on May 24, 2008 4:51 PM CDT reply actions

any chance we can get Wise to play 2B? Im sick of Ozuna

Why in the hell did we bring up an OF to replace our backup 2B/SS. We already have 5 OF. Call up Getz, call up ANYONE who can play the middle infield.

by JoeCoolMan24 on May 24, 2008 5:10 PM CDT reply actions

For the infield

We have.,.
Ozuna – 3B, SS, 2B
Ramirez – 2B, SS
OCab – SS

For the OF we have Q!, Anderson, Swisher, Dye, Ramirez. I would rather add a 3rd 2B than a 6th OF. Maybe it’s just me, but I am trying to justify not seeing Ozuna play anymore. All 5 of our OF are better than Ozuna, so lets get him out before we do one of those 5 OF.

by JoeCoolMan24 on May 24, 2008 5:18 PM CDT up reply actions

I just mean I want another reason

to not see Ozuna in there. The more people we add to the roster infront of him the better. Otherwise we basically HAVE to see him play a couple times a week.

by JoeCoolMan24 on May 24, 2008 5:21 PM CDT up reply actions

well, i would say no

getz really isn’t that good. like, at all. at any rate, the point is not who is better. ozuna is still going to play regardless.

by larry on May 24, 2008 5:25 PM CDT up reply actions

and in case you missed it

wise isn’t actually going to play. he’ll pinch run. if he picks up the bat at all, or at least more than once, i’ll be shocked.

This is ridiculous. Why can’t we hit? Everyone else hits Weaver. We can’t hit him or anyone else. Most major league teams hit better than we do. Danks gives up two runs and we don’t stand a chance when that happens becuase we can’t HIT!

I’d question where he gets such confidence anymore, but I like this move…

I don’t care what Owens stats are. Could it be worse for the offense? Obviously, our pitching stinks. They have the temerity to give up 6 runs in the last three games.

I was at the game today...

I went with my cousins from Santa Ana (who are visiting). For those of you who don’t know, it’s in Orange County. It was painful to see them celebrating the whole game, and they were quite surprised to learn my sox are in first. We need some hitting and soon.

by Los Soxos on May 24, 2008 7:17 PM CDT reply actions

We also need to release Thome...

If I’m not mistaken, he has 7 strikeouts in the last 3 games.

by Los Soxos on May 24, 2008 7:17 PM CDT reply actions

What will that do...

Might as well release OC, PK, Swish, Ozuna, Juan, Ramirez too… sadly we have nothing to replace any of them with. Might as well throw in firing Walk since no one seems to have a plan at the plate.
On the other hand, you have to admit, the finest example of pop-ups and flyouts demonstrated today. Does anyone drive down on the ball on this team?
