Give the three slow white guys some time
The Sox are playing good baseball. The team is in first place. The starting pitching and bullpen are strong. Paul, Jim and Nick are the clubs biggest concerns because they are not hitting. Don't panic. I still like to see these three come to the plate four times every game. They have the chance to take one deep and if they find their groove can carry a team. Let this work its way through naturally. All three, I predict, will be over .250 by mid-July.

Thome is slow personally and for the team
Jim Thome is slowing down the team. We have plenty of power on the team especially now with Quentin. And that is all Jim Thome provides: power. He is not that clutch and he can not play in the field at all. The White Sox should be playing Swisher at first, Kornerko at DH, and playing Brian Anderson every day. Anderson has shown a much better work ethic and attitude this season.
Thome is a great clubhouse guy and person overall. But he is not that good of a player anymore. Even if he raises his average to around .250, there is probably another player who could hit as well or better than him at the DH spot. Remember Josh Fields and Jerry Owens are in Triple A. By moving Kornerko to DH there is more opportunity to play the young guys. Also know that the DH spot does not have to be a slugger. In the championship season of 2005, the one and only Carl Everett was our DH.

games130 at bats432 runs79 hits119 doubles19 homers35 rbis96 walks95 ks134 ba .275 obp.410 slg.563 ops+150
give it up old man. you suck.
i wish someone had told me that sportsnation had replaced rationality with caps lock.

he only hit 19 doubles in 2007!!!, I say dump him! Right Now!
OPS is over rated, when was his last walk-off single?
Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

OPS = obp + slg
OPS was .973.
am i missing something here?
Im with you though.
I never wanted the guy.
Frank Thomas should still be here.
Another matter entirely.
They maybe shouldve traded Konerko to LAA of A if/when they had the chance.
one of these 3 should go-
paully, thome, dye
swisher?
how much of a sparkplug is this guy. Is his attitude really why the sox are in first?
I think not, and De Los Santos and Gonzales could be on the back burner for us still.
hindsight 20/20 and all that. Swish did start pretty strong.
Gio has 44 Ks through 48.2 IP in AAA, but an ERA of 5.92 thanks to 3 bad outings including 10 ER in his debut.
DLS hasnt fared much better in AA, sporting a 5.82 ERA
aw who knows.
the Sox are in 1st place.
that kicks ass.

OPS+ is normalized to the mean
An OPS+ of 100 is whatever the mean OPS was. An OPS+ over 100 means he did above average. An OPS+ of 150 is fantastic

I mean, for real
what does ops stand for anyways, hamburgers eaten at burger king? If it isn’t, then it should be.
when he’s slapping opposite field singles and bunting, or, better yet, fake bunting, then come talk to me.
Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Jerry Owens is neither young nor...
...good at baseball. He should be bagging groceries.

I'd say
its still early, but if this keeps up, we bring Fields up, put him at 1st, we dump Konerko and we resign Crede and we still get to keep both Fields and Crede. I love Konerko, but I think his time has come and gone. He’s been off to slow starts the past couple seasons and he finds his groove around late June or sometime in July, so since we’re in 1st for the time being I’m saying just keep it the way it is and give the players time we’re only 1/4 of the way thru the season. But if this is still happening come July, I think its time for changes.

I guess DFA!
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
