John Danks: Future All-Star
I'm drawing a blank again tonight. Other than Paul Konerko ending a career-high streak of 108 plate appearances without a homer, and the continued excellence of the bullpen, it was another ho-hum victory, if there ever were such a thing.
Don't get me wrong. I'd rather write about a winner than a loser, but I was more interested in watching the last hour of the Cubs game tonight than writing a recap. So I'll just leave you with this beautiful chart.

So how good does the BMac Trade look now?

I'm glad I never said anything terribly bad about it
I believe the worst I could muster was “It’s not a trade I would have made”—but that just had to do with trading pitching prospect for pitching prospect, not necessarily the parties involved.

they have been the the hottest or tied for hottest team in baseball for a spell.

The other day I pointed out that it had been 3 weeks between "laughers"
I think all of their losses over nearly a 20 game stretch required the presence of the opponents closer.
They’re pitching well, and the bullpen has had a phenomenal 2 weeks. The team would very easy to get behind if the slow white guys, as they’ve been called, would start to hit.

No idea...
but if you look at the sign to the left of the neon “OPEN” sign, there is a 480 area code on that Nails sign. 480 area code = Arizona so it was probably taken in Mesa, Arizona when Fukudome was with the Cubs for Spring Training. I still don’t understand why he would be wearing a Sox hat though.

trying to recall the published "rationale"
for Kosuke choosing the Cubs over the Sox… I don’t think it was money. I seem to remember a big part of the story was that he didn’t want to play CF. Well, he may end up there anyway, so sorry Kosuke…
I’m sure he was also looking at the endorsement potential on the North Side. Although I don’t think he got a cut on the Horry Kow t-shirts…

Supposedly...
Fukudome wanted to play RF and also wanted to be the first Japanese player for the Cubs. We already had Shingo and Iguchi. Supposedly, the Sox offered Fukudome more money.

Was Keith Law working for the Blue Jays when Kenny heisted David Wells for Mike Sirotka?
Pierre, Toronto: Under the knife went Fautino De Los Santos – Tommy John surgery. What does it mean for him in the long haul?SportsNation Keith Law: Gee, the White Sox traded a pitcher who needed surgery right away. I feel like that’s happened before (coughSirotkacough). The lost year of development hurts, because he’s more raw arm than polished pitcher. Probably sets him back two years when it’s all said and done.

This Win Can Be Attributed To Crede's
Diving stop in the bottom of the 3rd inning on Iwamura’s infield single. Had he not stopped it, the inning could’ve become disastrous for Danks & the Sox. So thank you Crede for that diving stop and the insurance 6th inning HR. Cheers to Joe for our 12th win out of our last 15.

but seems like he still labors through innings and piles up pitches mighty fast
by The Scoper on May 30, 2008 1:13 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
the pitches do pile up...
...but in the game tonight he faced three batters in 2 innings, four batters in 3 innings, and 7 in his one bad inning (which he escaped after allowing only one run). as for the rest, his whip is 1.21, which is good for 14th in the al. how much less laboring do you want or expect?

he's basically a strikeout pitcher
not really that surprising that he has a high pitch count. look at javy, for example. it will become less of a problem in the future, if things go as plan, as he gets more endurance/sox get more comfortable allowing him to get into the 110+ range and as he gets a bit more efficient. hell, the sox have probably let him go over 100 pitches about 7 times in his career so maybe i should say they get comfortable letting him go over that.

Natural order of things
By the way as much as folks talk about the Rays and White Sox. The East still has to contend with the ridiculous starting pitching of Toronto. Poor Yankees (righttttt). The Bosox will be in a battle all year I think.

Jim says about the same thing in his case for/against:
Points for: Owns the lowest ERA on the staff, and it’s good for sixth in the American League. Excellent peripherals all the way around, with the second-best strikeout and home run rates in the rotation.
Points against: The .500 record isn’t going to win those interested in that stat, and more significantly to me, he averages the fewest innings per start on the staff.
Comments: Ahead of him on the ERA list are Cliff Lee, Joe Saunders and Greg Smith, so the guys making the picks could be leftied out when it’s time to consider Danks. He should at least be ahead of Smith, who is only 3-4 on the year, but Oakland may need a rep.

I think the IP through 11 starts is interesting
in that they closely match. But high pitch counts and shorter outings are not as big a problem as they were last year. Last year, a 6 inning outing meant bringing in a Bukvich or MacDougal.
It will be interesting to track the comps between 07 and 08 the rest of the way. After all, his first 11 ‘07 starts were not too bad, at least compared to when he fell off the cliff in July and Aug.

Also, I wish the Sox/Cabrera would re-do their South Side commercial, poking some fun at the scorer “controversy.” Maybe like Bob Rosenberg holding a sign that says something, then Cabrera calls him, and he picks up a different sign.
