Talk around the clubhouse is one, and maybe two, players could be sent packing tomorrow. The Reaper is a coming kids. Lock the doors.

Uribe... he gawn?
Is he going to the bench for good or are they are going to eat his salary?

And I hate Uribe, don't get me wrong...
but how does he get the axe after getting 2 of our 4 hits tonight? LOL.
This team makes all of their decisions at the totally wrong time—waive Uribe to start the season and then keep him, almost going with Owens over Quentin (only reason it didn’t happen was because of Owens’ injury), adding Adam Russell over Josh Fields.

Seriously.
I mean the guy is willing to be a utility player, his defense is still good. What the hell.. he’s better then Pablo Ozuna. This makes no sense.

really? Uribe?
I was waiting for a special time to use this:

I think it makes more sense for Ozuna to go.

Ah yes, ole Ezekiel Uribe - R.I.P.
The Sox got so mad at Thome, JD, Paulie, Swish and OCab that they DFA’s that POS Uribe.

I think they both might be gone
So because Uribe gets two hits tonight to make it 3 for his last 47, it’s a bad time to get rid of him? Wouldn’t mind to see Getz get his chance. I believe him to hold all the qualities that sportswriters hold true to their heart for the white ballplayer. Grinder, handles the bat, bunts for hits, shows moxie, never gives up, gamer, does more with less….

Didn'see it.
Was Uribe’s baserunning mistake (Cabrera GO, Uribe NOT SCORING from 3rd) really, really bad or just marginally bad?

That was Uribe
He can’t pick up Cox where he is standing. Also that was discussed before the batter dug in. Break on a ground ball, wait till the liner clears, and tag on a fly ball. He broke, then stopped. Thats the player being stupid.

Sigh...
I really want to grow to like this team over the summer, but little moves like this really grate my nerves. Ramirez at second? Really? That strikes me as extremely short-sighted. For one, he’s looked as bad as Ozuna and Uribe have looked at the plate. Second, ‘pigeonholing’ (that’s probably not the correct word I should use, but I’m gonna go with it and live with any consequences) him at second-base when it looks like he may be capable of handling CF and/or SS seems like a bad move.
Cowley says two players packing - one of those is probably Russell, but damn if there wouldn’t be celebration if Ozuna was one of the two. I’d much rather have Uribe on the bench - he can play defense capably at two (probably three—3B) spots and can actually smack the ball out of the yard every so often. I know he’s making a lot of money but who cares at this point – that’s in the past and is sunk.
I’ll echo the sentiments of wanting to see one (or hell, both) of Getz and the Frenchman - who I thought was Richar, but Bourg’s name looks more ‘frenchy’ so I’ll go with it - recalled. And I’ll still cry for my ideal scenario (as of right now), even if it is falling on deaf ears (i.e. Sox management)—down go Russell and Ozuna (DFAd); Ramirez to Charlotte as their everyday SS; Bourg and Getz come up and take over as our second-base platoon.

Maybe its more of an issue of how Ozzie uses Uribe
Kenny’s hand may have been forced because Ozzie would keep on putting Uribe out day in and day out, and Kenny had to remove the toy. Ozzie has had one problem, and that is falling in love with X bad player and finding ways of putting him in the lineup.
Ramirez should be in AAA right now learning how to play that position at a higher level and working on his stroke.
Getz should be called up until Richar can come up.
Pablo should be gone, he provides no tools.

They picked up his option
and then one week later make an impulsive trade for OCab. That was the mistake. KW even admitted that Renteria was the guy he really wanted.

Juan Uribe - your 25th man
I agree with Keith, Juan Uribe is good at the end of the bench for those 15 inning games with lots of pinch hitters or times when an infielder tweaks a muscle late in a game when the Sox are up or down by about 5, etc.
Ramirez is Triple A caliber until he proves he proves otherwise (at Triple A.)
Ozuna – he gone…

Juan Uribe--not the problem
I disagree—Uribe is a fine everyday second baseman and ninth-place hitter on a team like the Sox, especially considering the other options. He has been excellent on defense this year and his offense was not an issue until the ENTIRE offense went in the tank this last eight days or so. In fact, counting his game-tying home run in the final game of the Baltomore series and 2 hits today (he was benched for half of the road trip), he has been one of our BETTER hitters over the last week or so. The problems on this team are Thome, Konerko and Dye, just like they were last year. I don’t know how the Sox can do it, but they have got to find a way to retool the middle of the order: that is the only way they start scoring an acceptable number of runs.

This is amazing
A bad player who has hit .235 for the last 2 years swinging for the Dan Ryan on every pitch. So bad that they pick his option up, and immediately decide to trade for his replacement. Try to sell him for spare baseballs and only an injury keeps him on the team. He gets 2 hits in one game, and now you are sad. I only hope that Pablo/Walker/Gellinger are all out as well. That would be a great day.

When was the last time
That the sox were prepared for a pitcher they never have seen. If you are a new pitcher, you will dominate our hitters. In fact they will look puzzled on what pitches you throw. They were first on the block pretty much with a great video setup at the Cell. Their video/assistant hitting coach was on the radio last year as saying that he doesnt use video to help the hitters break down their swings as much as he shows them when they had success, because its about the mental aspect than the video breakdown. I would rather they broke down the pitchers, and let the shrink work up to the professionals.

And I disagree with you
I would hardly call Uribe a ‘fine everyday second baseman’. A 25th guy, sure I can maybe see that, but not a fine everyday player. I do agree with you in that others have to start hitting and their struggles are probably more important but this is the 21st century and the American League. You can’t have a 9th hitter hitting at his 8th grade weight and say he’s doing fine.

Uribe's gotten worse
and worse as a hitter the last few years, a disturbingly common pattern on the Sox, but he hit over 20 home runs in 3 of the last 4 years and drove in more than 70 mostly from the 9-hole. Coupled with above average defense, he really is an okay everyday second baseman, as long as you get production from the positions that are supposed to produce offensively. I’m not “sad” that the Sox are getting rid of Uribe…the point is just that it’s not going to make them any better—their offensive problems this last week or so have had nothing to do with him.

Wrong...
Uribe’s offense has always been an issue, even before our entire lineup went into the dumps. He was sucking offensively even before the entire offense tanked. He hasn’t been good with the stick since 2004.

I'm not arguing
he was ever a great offensive player, but no team gets above average offense from every position, and a second baseman who drives in 70 runs is not as big a liability as anyone who blames Uribe for the Sox offensive problems the last two years is pretending. But EVERY team gets better production from the middle of its order than the Sox have gotten since the beginning of 2005.

pissed
about the base path blunder, but keep Uribe over Pablo just because above all else he’s better as a hitter, fielder, thrower, and pablo isn’t even a good runner anymore.

I guess the Sox wanted to be like DET and CLE and waive a player
But they waived their 4th worst player, which is baffling. I’m glad Ramirez gets a chance to play. I’d rather it were in AAA, but at least he’ll get at-bats…unless:
1) Ramirez continues to blow
2) Ozzie plays Ozuna more
which is what I would guess will happen.
For all Uribe’s faults, he has a plus glove. Ozuna has no tools at this point. I don’t get it. It’s another one of the marginal roster decisions that just baffle me.
Any chance Hall is gone? Or Ozuna? Or Ramirez to AAA? Any of those would make more sense.
by hitlesswonder on May 5, 2008 11:08 PM CDT 0 recs
Quoted from SoxTalk...
“from rongey russelll was sent down already after the game and rongey said he got text say rumors that white sox rumoring of letting go of uribe and maybe other possible changes.”
by SSH2005 on May 5, 2008 11:13 PM CDT 0 recs
So obviously, Russell goes to bring back Ramirez...
and it sounds like Ramirez will be our starter at 2B but how can the justify dumping Uribe over Ozuna? It wouldn’t make any sense to cut loose the better player and eat the bigger contract. I wonder what the other moves will be…

The Owens Media Love Affair
I was shocked to see how similar Getz and Owens’s numbers are in AAA yet you don’t hear a single word about the former. Considering they need a middle infielder way more than they need another outfielder, I don’t understand how they haven’t mentioned him at all.

This is disgusting...
TORONTO – Javier Vazquez is quickly developing into the biggest victim of the White Sox’s recent hitting woes. Vazquez has received three runs of support in his past three starts. He left Monday’s game at Toronto with two out in the eighth inning with a 1-0 deficit. Vazquez’s 115th pitch was clocked at 97 m.p.h., according to a television monitor.
