Things Will Only Get Better (Coming from a Cubs fan)

Relax (Coming from me, a hated Cubs fan)

I understand all these problems you guys think and know the Sox have right now. MY advice be patient. I cannot see this team finishing even close to as bad the 07 team finished. In fact this team reminds me a lot of that “good” Cubs team last year that made the playoffs. The 07 Cubs, not a great team by any means, started out with a horrible offense and finished April with a very similar record as the 08 Sox, they turned things around and took the division. The AL Central is not what it was (I do not know why, but it seems weaker than last year) Im not saying its NL Central weak (Although its solid this year), but It looks like everyone is going to beat up on everyone else in the AL Central. So,relax, Thome will come around, Quentin is a stud, and Dye and Paulie will start hitting more. Also, I can see the Sox trying to get Brian Roberts from the Orioles. I guess the point to my post is, things can only get better and it is really early in the season. The Sox are still my pick to win the division. F#ck the Tigers.

Chicago Pete

You are correct my friend. haha. I am in the minority in this city, I want to see both teams succeed. Things cannot get any worse. Look at the bright side Uribe will be gone!

You know what the other bright side is?

The Cubbies will fall on their faces again this year and you can get to work on your second century of woe. Cubs suck!

Blueberry Pie Recipe

Ingredients
Crust:
One double recipe for all butter pie crust

Filling ingredients:
3 pints of blueberries, cleaned and stems removed
2 Tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for thickening)
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 Tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Egg wash ingredients:
1 egg
1 Tbsp milk

Method
1 Prepare crust. If you have made dough, on a lightly floured work surface, roll out half of the dough to 1/8-inch-thick circle, about 13 inches in diameter. Drape dough over a 9-inch pie pan and put into the refrigerator to chill for about 30 minutes. If you have purchased frozen pre-rolled circles, allow them to defrost and place one of the circles on and in the pie pan.

2 Whisk egg and milk together to make an egg wash and set aside.

3 Combine blueberries, flour, cinnamon, lemon juice, and sugar and place in the chilled bottom crust of the pie pan. Dot the top with butter pieces. Roll out the remaining dough to the same size and thickness. Brush the rim of the crust with the egg wash, place the other piece of dough on top, trim to 1/2 inch over the edge of the pan, and crimp the edges with a fork or your fingers. Transfer the pie to the refrigerator to chill until firm, about 30 minutes. Heat oven to 425°F.

4 Remove from refrigerator. Brush the top with egg wash. Score the pie on the top with two perpendicular cuts (so steam can escape while cooking). Bake for 20 minutes at 425°. Reduce heat to 350°F and bake for 30 to 40 minutes more or until juices are bubbling. Let cool before serving.

Mmm...blueberry pie

I’m going to try this recipe this weekend, thanks.

and if it doesn’t turn out delicious, I’ll find you and kill you…just kidding…or am I? (hint: yes I am just kidding)

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Nice to see some irrational Cubbie optimism

but this team isn’t going to be anywhere near first place.

As Much As I Hate To Reference To Them

The 2007 Cubs WERE in a similar position.

On June 2nd they dropped their 6th in a row to go to 22-31.

Then, as we all know, they were 32-39 on June 22nd, coming off 2 losses in a row to the lowly Rangers, and then then poof, they took off. They went on to sweep the White Sox, en route to winning 10 of their next 11 and never looking back at .500 the rest of the season. And they too had thoughts of ridding Jacque Jones similar to Uribe being threatened to be let go, and then Jones took off to be one of their most clutch hitters.

So, like waitonhim said in his own fanpost, maybe the AL Central HAS morphed into the NL Central and 85-90 wins will take the Division.

I just think it’s a little premature to start LOOKING AT THE DRAFT when this team could have won 3 more games (Opening Day, Bobby’s Baltimore blown saves in BAL & CHI). There’s reason to be pessimistic because of the offense on the road trip, but how can we count a team out after only being 2 under .500 with 132 games left and the pitching we’ve been getting? Some games even the littlest offense will be enough to win. Don’t be so quick to quit on this season, at least just not yet. It’s a LONG season and that’s why baseball is SO great. Hell, there were times we were panicking in ‘05 with their losing streak. I think everyone needs to relax and wait until the 10 game west coast trip is over to judge this team. That might be a true barometer.

sarcasm is generally supposed to be funny

oh, sure, now that paulie called you out on your

clearly premature call for the end of the sox season, you clearly backpedal. flip. flop. flip. flop. clearly.

I just thought it was odd that it was created as

a “Recommended FanPost” is all. I’m not saying the sarcasm wasn’t there, I just added it in my discussion about the season not being over because I felt it should’ve been titled a little differently is all ;)

by PaulieK14 on May 7, 2008 2:10 PM CDT up reply actions

it was not created as a recommended fanpost

the community recommends, not the creator.

speaking as 1 who gave it a "rec"

I did it BECAUSE of the sarcastic title. The content was ok too.

Here, here.

Run for office, already. You are a practiced flipper/flopper.

I took the "under".

by winningugly on May 7, 2008 3:00 PM CDT up reply actions

What? Sarcasm on SSS??? You've got to be kidding me, right?

Well, since the Twins are no longer running away with the division, according to the sportswriters of america definition, I guess there’s still a slight glimmer of hope for the Sox. That and 131 games left.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.
