The two lonely dots are changeup, which I didn’t think he threw many of tonight. But the graph really illustrates it.
Fangraphs says he only throws about 6% changeups, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
If I remember correctly, when I tackled the pitch-type data in the offseason, I found that Gavin’s Slider(labeled cutter here) was one nasty pitch.

Those in the 9th didn't look like cuttters or sliders
They looked like nasty, nasty curves. He has the same curve in the last game he pitched but was not consistent with the rest of his pitches.
I took the "under".

OK - when you said sliders
were labeled cutters I thought the “CU” was cutter, not curve. Thanks.

my first instinct was that ozzie should have let gavin finish it
but the pitch data clearly shows he was starting to lose his fastball, and i’m sure he was going on adrenaline at the end, so he may have really been out of gas.
i wish someone had told me that sportsnation had replaced rationality with caps lock.

I might be an idiot.
But what’s a FC?

cutter
that’s how MLB’s gameday labels them (or at least how their XML data labels ‘em)

Oh, I thought CU was cutter.
I guess that would leave no abbreviation for curve, though.
I would think CF for “cut fastball” would make more sense. Maybe I’ll write them a letter.

Gotta think Floyd's psyche / attitude
is as high as it’s ever been in the MLB (he was referred to as a head case in a thread about 6 weeks ago). He needs to build on this success now. Got to learn to handle the success.
That 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch square between Gavin’s ears.
Pitching and defense.

They just talked about the near no hitter on nightline.

rotoworld
His ERA is down to 2.50 despite a 19/18 K/BB ratio and the White Sox’s defense has amazingly turned over 85 percent of Floyd’s balls in play into outs, which makes him an excellent sell-high candidate.
is kenny working the fans?

No, Rotoworld is a fantasy site.
They’re talking about selling high for fantasy players. Roto is saying that Gavin will come back down to earth and is advising to trade him while his value is at its peak

Probably a good thought
I know Floyd will not consistently flirt with no-hitters. Or have a sub-3 ERA.
But can he be a 4.5ish ERA pitcher? Is that possible? Or does the 19/18 K/BB ratio portend something like his career 6+ ERA. I have no idea.
If Danks and Floyd could both be above average starters in the AL on the cheap, then the Sox organization really would have some hope for building a competitive team in 2009.

Why didn’t Ozzie replace Swisher with Anderson in the 9th? Do you think BA would have caught that ball?
by phastphil on May 6, 2008 11:36 PM CDT 0 recs
BA hasn't been moving quite as well since he was bizzled in the azzle
