Last time Slowey faced the Sox...
Sep. 23, 2007 -
7 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 9 K.
I expect a similar line today.

Optimistic I see
Q gets 3 or 4 of the 4 hits in that scenario ?

Only two.
Toby Hall will poke out a single, as will Paul Konerko.

just for fun
i’m going to pick a total ass-kicking of slowey.
Jesus H. Larry! I said the first half!
Sox are due...
Slowey is 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA in two career starts against Chicago.

nice to know MLB.com can't be trusted

And when might we expect this total ass-kicking to begin, Larry?
Pitching and defense.
Most folks are a slave to the grind
Have you gone to many games this year? It might be tough to watch this in person.
I took the "under".
If the Sox make Slowey...
Look like Roidger Clemens, I am going to scream! Or maybe I will just yell for Cedric Benson’s mommy!
Scouting Report:
Twins: With Scott Baker’’s strained right groin muscle keeping him a question mark for his next start, the Twins decided to call up Slowey. The right-hander has not pitched in the Majors since April 3, when he left his start after just 3 1/3 innings with a right biceps strain. After letting the injury heal during a DL stint, Slowey headed to the Minors and made three starts there. He last pitched for Triple-A Rochester on May 1, giving up two earned runs over five innings. He allowed two walks and struck out nine. Slowey is 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA in two career starts against Chicago.
C'mon, Smokey! This isn't 'Nam, it's bowling. There are rules!

he’s seventh in the lineup in EqA with a spectacular .212.

it's perfectly efficacious

it wasnt

draft
General manager Ken Williams plans to accompany the White Sox on their 10-game trip after spending several weekends scouting top amateur players in preparation for next month’s draft. It’s a very important draft for the Sox, who draft eighth overall but don’t have a second-round selection.

on why releasing juan uribe now is probably a futile endeavor
I was asked last night, on ESPN Radio here in New York, about Jason Giambi and Carlos Delgado, neither of whom is playing well so far this season. Both are in the final season of high-dollar contracts, so again, you have a sunk cost for one year. While releasing the players would sate the bloodlust that has become so much a part of baseball in Gotham, neither team has an acceptable substitute on hand. The Mets simply have no first-base options, while the Yankees have fan favorite Shelley Duncan, who’s kind of Richie Sexson without the good years. You can’t swing an ax wildly with no plan to stanch the blood flow after you hit something. "Platoon Marlon Anderson and Damion Easley" is not a plan.
It’s not enough to identify a problem. It’s not enough to grasp the concept of sunk costs. It’s not enough to take an underperforming player out of the equation. You have to have a plan for what comes next, one that is better than the current situation. The Blue Jays didn’t, and for their trouble, they’ve wasted one of the best run-prevention stretches any team will have all year by going 8-9, leaving them treading water in the AL East. Perhaps Frank Thomas wasn’t the solution, but it has to be clear by now that he damn sure wasn’t the problem.
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=7489
until richar is available, just like the above situations, there really isn’t a plan. would be nice to see the sox cut bait on a bad player, regardless of money, but cutting him really does not much more than sate the bloodlust in the second city. uribe bad; present options likely worse.
now pablo…
Jesus H. Larry! I said the first half!
interesting, though 1 question:
why don’t you consider Getz or Frenchy “a plan”, even if for this season only, or until Richar is healthy and hitting?
"Lipstick traces on cigarettes can get you in trouble or remind you of the wonders of the night before."
Because...
he thinks that Uribe is better than either Getz or Bourgeois.
I disagree w/r/t Getz (although I understand larry’s qualms about him), but Bourgeois shouldn’t be a starting player at the MLB level. He’s better than Pablo Ozuna, but Pablo Ozuna shouldn’t be starting, either.
by The Jerry Royster Experience on May 8, 2008 1:03 PM CDT up reply actions
i don't think either of those are as good or better than juan
they’re both AAAA or utility players with no pop. uribe is at least a utility player with pop and the ability to play plus defense.
a lot of the bloodletting we’ve seen recently – thomas, j. jones, etc. – has just been done for the sake of doing something or, at the very least, not for baseball reasons. the only real useful ones i’ve seen were wilkerson and vidro because the mariners at least replaced those players with somethings that are likely to be more useful both now and going forward.
Jesus H. Larry! I said the first half!
We have a AAAA team with MLB pitching right now
So why not give one of the kids a chance – and more than a few games and before we say they can’t
because one doesn't need to give them a chance before saying they can't
their minor league histories make it clear. just like juan’s major league history makes it clear what he is.
if your position is play the kids, everything else be damned, that’s fine. it just doesn’t make things better in baseball terms. which was my and sheehan’s point.
Jesus H. Larry! I said the first half!
why would it need to be extensive?
in fact, that’s one of the things that would weigh against bringing him up. he hasn’t mastered the minors yet; why would he be able to survive as a starter in the bigs?
Jesus H. Larry! I said the first half!
getz in the majors right now
would be like a combination of owens and uribe. when he made contact, the ball would be lucky to get out of the infield. and, when he didn’t make contact, a guy who is striking out in 20% of his at-bats at AAA and walking in 7% (boy, whose stats do those sound like who plays in the majors…?) is going to get eaten alive.
Jesus H. Larry! I said the first half!
wasn't aware of that.
but there you go.
he needs more time to adjust to AAA before getting the call to the majors.
Jesus H. Larry! I said the first half!
can you point me in the direction where EqA is calculated?
