I call it the 'Uribe offense'

Hot and cold, but mostly cold.

Although I seem to remember the offense scoring a lot the 1st two weeks of the season, maybe that should be a separate time period.

Both feet on the bandwagon.

all i know

is me and my brother drank 16 shots of jaegermiester in hte bullpen bar, and eventually the sox caught up.

(combined, not indiviidually)

6 pregame, 4 when the first fireworks went off, 4 in the 5thish, 2 in hte top of 7, bang.

so the AAAA journeyman starts over Anderson, yet B.A. is his defensive replacement/pinch hitter later?

why not start B.A.?

did Wise’s old man play pigskin with Kenny Sr. or what?

Is Jerry Owens

officially banned from the 40 man roster? This is the 2nd time Wise has been called up. Are they boycotting Owens to ensure a Roster controversy doesn’t begin? I’m not saying I’m a proponent of him, but at least give the guy a chance over Wise.

I Am More Perplexed Than Distraught

And yes I meant 25. I just feel like he isn’t being given a chance, although I wouldn’t say I’m “missing” him. I think he could be playing just AS GOOD if not a little BETTER than B.A. has performed so far this season.

#'s In AAA Is What We Go By Now?

If that’s the case, look @ Wise’s steady decline from an AVG. of .340+ to down to .319?

by PaulieK14 on Jun 18, 2008 1:04 PM CDT up reply actions

tell me what you go by in assessing whether someone should be called up.

your faith that owens can play baseball well right now? he’s doing a poor job of stealing bases. he’s not hitting. he’s not getting on base. outside of blind optimism, why should the white sox expect a better performance at a higher level?

wise, despite that oh so horrible slide you refer to, was still outperforming your boy for the month of june – and with jerry having a ridiculously unstastainable BABIP propping up his numbers.

by larry on Jun 18, 2008 1:08 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd Go By

If Wise instills confidence that he can play at or better than B.A.’s level. I honestly believe Jerry Owens CAN play better than B.A. has to this point. I also think SB’s and CS’s are a crapshoot and there’s no real way to assess that just by looking at the #’s.

Not even getting a chance is what’s bothering me. Wise didn’t have a hit until last night when it seemed everyone was getting a hit except for Q. I just don’t understand his 2nd chance at it when Owens didn’t even get a 1st chance.

by PaulieK14 on Jun 18, 2008 1:16 PM CDT up reply actions

i'm confused

the guy called up to be a stopgap should be better than the guy who has been on the roster all season?

it’s nice that you have confidence in jerry. since the white sox have way more information than you or i – and you apparently don’t think numbers tell the whole story (with which i certainly agree) – it might be a time to defer to them.

Against Lefthanded pitching

the White Sox are futile; the Pirate announcers (Sox feed was not available through DirectTV last night) were talking with tonight’s starter Tom Gorzelanny (who grew up on the South Side and was a Sox fan) last night; Crede is 5 for 50 against LHP; all of Dye’s homers are against RHP; only Thome, oddly enough, is hitting LHP well. So, even though Gorzelanny sports a 6.65 ERA, I fear that Buerhle is in danger of what Jayson Stark calls another CUS (criminally unsupported start).

Any thoughts on why the Sox can’t hit LHP?

Well, that's not what he's saying.

I get it – it’s frustrating when there’s a runner on second and two outs, and the inning ends on a medium-deep fly ball because the batter is trying to hit it out of the park rather than just get any old hit.

But that’s the team that Ken Williams has assembled – Greg Walker or anyone else can’t do anything about that.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jun 18, 2008 2:24 PM CDT up reply actions

actually, he kind of did say that above.

you know, like, when he said he wanted the team to score more runs via the JRE favorite the single and not home runs? i’m not sure why he’d be advocating it if he didn’t think it was better.

Scouts’ views of various players around the major leagues:

White Sox reliever Scott Linebrink: “I thought the White Sox were crazy for giving him that big contract [four years, $19 million as a free agent] but [GM] Kenny Williams is having the last laugh. [Linebrink’s] been ridden pretty hard over the years, and I really thought he was burning out last season, but he’s just one of those guys with a rubber arm.”

well, i sort of have a problem with assessing a contract 2.5 months into it when it's for four seasons.

as i’ve said before, the money may well be worth it if the sox win a championship this year (or he contributes to some combination of playoff appearances or winning seasons), even if he dies halfway through the contract.

Will Carroll: He’s had a couple good years, a couple bad years, so I don’t think we have a real handle on him. We don’t have a good handle on coaching. Mazzone and Peterson were by acclimation the two best pitching coaches in the game, but today they’re both unemployed. Simply put, we have almost no idea what effect coaches have. If I can rephrase your question for you and you asked “Would Don Cooper be on a list of pitching coaches you’d interview if you were hiring?” the answer would be yes. Not at the top, but on the list.

He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy whose numbers would dip just b/c the team is awful, so it’s probably legitimate. KW said money wasn’t a factor, and with Thome coming off the books the Sox have the cash if that was a problem. If Suzuki can’t play center though it’s pretty pointless.

i’m using unathletic in the baseball sense (i.e., his tool is mash ball, run slowly around bases, and avoid the field at all costs). obviously he’s “athletic” if he’s playing major league ball.

To recap:

1. Sox need to DFA Herm Schneider because he is on ‘roids and doesn’t hit enough 2-out singles with men on second, all of whom would be unable to score anyway because they are too fat.
2. Coop once had a bad year, but no one remembers because they had too much jaegermiester in the bullpen bar last night with Hugo Chavez’s brother.
3. Travis Hafner is bad because he is too fat, as is everyone else except Konerko, who we should therefore trade for Ichiro, or possibly Orlando Hudson (one or both of whom may also be too fat, but they were former catchers or 3rd basemen, so they must be thin enough to score from 2nd on a hypothetical team which has hitters who do not always try to hit home runs).
4. Jerry Owens has been banned from the 25 man roster because he plays too many games in below average home run parks. Also, he cannot drink enough jagermeister.
5. Everything else is Juan Uribe’s fault.

That about cover it?

I think they all badly overstate the likelihood of a decent acquisition for 3 months of CC

Rasmus was being thrown out there. C’mon. I think they could probably convince Ned Colletti that he doesn’t need LaRoche, but outside of that, there aren’t a lot of corner bats available to them.

dude, that was totally not swish you saw on rush street last night. swish was at home playing xbox.

Here's what I'd have to agree to in order to join Let's Go Tribe:
  • No political talk. * No personal attacks. * No trolling or flame-baiting. * No profanity, this is a family-friendly site. * No posting under multiple identities. * No blatant site pimping. * Enjoy yourself, and try to help others do the same.

The only thing I haven’t done here is post under multiple identities. Yet.
