Here's what happened

They posted “today’s games to watch” which had last week’s hit list rankings.

Larry posted that.

They posted the updated hit list rankings and updated the “today’s games to watch” article too.

Both feet on the bandwagon.

so can we see the REAL article? or at least the changes?

I’m shocked at larry.

Here's the sox blurb from the Hit List
#3 Sox 41-31 Hit list factor .591

Held to just 14 runs in their previous six games, the White Sox erupt for 37 in a three-game sweep of the Pirates. The deluge comes after they lose struggling Paul Konerko (.215/.322/.368) to an oblique strain; the White Sox first baseman could have earned a spot among the Replacement Level Killers had the competition not been so intense. Meanwhile, as one senior Sock struggles, another is rounding into shape: Mark Buehrle has delivered six quality starts in his last seven, good for a 2.77 ERA, less than half of the 5.81 he’d put up beforehand.

Both feet on the bandwagon.

The changes on the today's game to watch

were just changing the hit list ranking, everything else is the same.

Lineups...

White Sox:
Cabrera SS
Pierzynski C
Quentin LF
Dye RF
Swisher 1B
Crede 3B
Ramirez 2B
Anderson CF
Danks P

Cubs:
Fukudome CF
Theriot SS
Lee 1B
Ramirez 3B
Soto C
DeRosa RF
Murton LF
Cedeno 2B
Lilly P

Cubs lineup looks pretty weak to me.

by SSH2005 on Jun 20, 2008 12:31 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It looks like...

the Cubs are showcasing Murton for a trade.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jun 20, 2008 12:33 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Or...

Piniella has a banged-up Reed Johnson and Jim Edmonds and Edmonds is a lefty anyways. He wanted to stack their lineup with righties. Reed Johnson would be starting if he was 100%.

by SSH2005 on Jun 20, 2008 12:35 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And hopefully...

the Cubs having Fukudome in CF will somehow hurt them today.

If by "pretty weak" you mean one of the best in baseball, I agree

Months of cub-love from you about their offense and they now look “pretty weak”. You wouldn’t be setting yourself up for a post later about how the Sox underachieved would you? Hmmmm.

by hitlesswonder on Jun 20, 2008 12:58 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yeah, what the hell?

it’s 6 of the 8 regular hitters. replacing soriano with murton or cedeno obviously a loss, but reed johnson only has a 90 ops+ (cedeno is 91). interesting how the loss of soriano alone has transformed the cubs’ lineup from lethal to pretty weak in ssh’s eyes.

Half Dome is my bitch. Shasta is next.

I guess I should have said "weaker than normal"...

Blue Jays to fire their manager...
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Blue Jays will fire manager John Gibbons prior to Friday night’s game and replace him with Cito Gaston.
There’s a press conference scheduled shortly. Gibbons has gone 305-305 in parts of five seasons with the Blue Jays, including this year’s disappointing 35-39 mark that has the team in the AL East basement. General manager J.P. Ricciardi may also be on the hot seat at some point, but unlike in Seattle this time the manager takes the first fall. Gaston managed the Blue Jays from 1989-1997 and led the team to a pair of championships, but hasn’t managed since then, hasn’t skippered a winning team since 1994 and is now 64 years old.

The annoying thing about this Cubs team is how good they are at getting on base

Presumably they’re still #1 in MLB. Johnny needs to have his A stuff and follow the Kazmir formula. If he is getting his change and curve over and his cutter is getting GBs, he should do alright.

If the Sox lay off the pitches out of the zone and only swing at strikes, and aren’t afraid to go oppo then Lilly can be had.

And he has really sucked against non-2007 Sox teams.

Meanwhile, Cubs starter - and fellow southpaw - Ted Lilly (7-5, 4.76) is more familiar with the White Sox, against whom he is 5-2 with a 6.22 ERA in nine career starts. He has won his last two starts versus them, yielding five runs in 13 1-3 innings.

Looks like Uribe would be a good PH if Lilly is still in the game: 3-12 with 2 HR, only 1K

The Cubbies wear blue
They have Fookodome,

Er.

Looks like Kalk’s code is backwards. Select lefty to get righty…

Righty

Nothing really special, but he doesn’t like to use his curve against righties. Throws strikes and his fastball is very hittable. There isn’t a big swing and miss pitch, so getting behind isn’t the worst thing in the world. He looks pretty imminently solvable.

Lefty

The slider is death and the fastball is hard to generate power against. Basically, every righty that can be in the game should be.

All in all, I like our chances. AJ will probably get owned all day, but our batters have done a good job not chasing all year. He’s “crafty” I guess and the sort of pitcher the Sox have struggled against, but it’s hard to see why. He gets huge break on his curve, but it looks like he saves it and doesn’t get a lot of whiffs on it anyway. According to his Player Card he throws it almost exclusively in two strike counts. We’ll probably see a few key double plays come from it and, going out on a limb, a BA strikeout.

oof.

question: is there a way they weigh NL pitchers’ strike-out totals considering they get to face pitchers?

yup.

every pound of NL strikeouts = 12 ounces of AL strikeouts.

Off the top of my head

K/9 averages around a half a strikeout higher in the NL.

Does anyone here follow the Cubs?

Because I think I have confused Theriot and Fontenot for a year now.

this teams infield defense is so damn good

too bad we have morgan freeman out in right

btw josh fields can stay in AAA for all I care, we don’t need an outfielder.

Sems odd....

Dye’s homer goes on the street, AJ’s into the hands of a cheering Sox fan. Yet the game is delayed twice because balls are thrown back. Methinks it’s different balls. Jag off bleacherites.

Show mercy. I get to watch the Rangers.

the only Cubs players I like
