Lou is a maverick!
Manager Lou Piniella said he would not have to watch Zambrano’s pitch counts any more than usual, though he began having problems after a 130-pitch outing May 28 against Los Angeles and has a 5.28 earned-run average in his four starts since.http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubssox/cs-080621-carlos-zambrano-dl-chicago-cubs,1,884087.story“Pitch counts, believe me, have nothing to do with it,” Piniella said.

Maybe they figure Zambrano's unique, but come on
there’s not that good a chance that that’s a good idea. A single start in May and you’re throwing your lone good pitcher 130 pitches?

They better get this winning thing back on track
The next 2 weeks is ugly.
Dempster
Then in Dodger land.
Lowe – Sinkerballer
Stults
Kershaw – I am sure that they will rock him. Lefty, curveball, changeup, never faced Thats the usual sox formula for 8 runs..
Back home to the Cell for
Marquis
Dempster
Marshall
Then we start to face some tough pitching
Sowers
Lee
Sabathia
Then Oakland for 4.

The problem this team has with strike throwers
is that guys like OC and Joe take it as incentive to swing as early in the count as possible. With the sinkerballer, what are the odds he’s going to be trying to get it up early in the count for a strike? He’s going to be trying to induce swings. And if he doesn’t have an out pitch, then you’re going to see the same stuff if you fall behind anyway. While in general I get a lot out of watching this team, seeing OC have 2(?) consecutive 1 pitch at bats against Marquis was pretty infuriating at the time.
I don’t, however, buy your theory as yet and require that you contextualize and analyze more thoroughly.

Silverio collects 7 RBIs
Juan Silverio was projected as a five-tool talent when he signed with the Chicago White Sox as a 16-year-old shortstop. He flashed a few of those tools on Saturday night.http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080621&content_id=421240&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jspSilverio hit his first career grand slam and drove in a career-high seven runs to lead the Bristol Sox to a 10-4 triumph over the Burlington Royals at Burlington Athletic Stadium.
The native of the Dominican Republic stroked an RBI single and scored in the first inning, plated a run with a groundout in the sixth before hitting the slam, his second homer of the season, in the seventh. He added an RBI base hit in the ninth.
Sox manager Bobby Thigpen likes what he’s seen in only five games from Silverio.
“He’s a great kid and he’s gotten off to a good start,” said the former All-Star closer. “I’ve only seen him for a few weeks, but he’s been working hard.”
Silverio is batting .381 (8-for-21) with two homers and 16 RBIs in five games. Signed as a non-drafted free agent, he began the year in extended spring training before arriving in Bristol. He is viewed as a five-tool prospect and could move quickly up the organizational ladder.
“The guy’s got some talent and the tools,” Thigpen said. “Projection-wise it’s hard to say, but if he continues to work and improve, he should be in Chicago. ...

Got his bobble-head doll autographed
at Over-The-Hill camp. I lit him up, too – got a double and a single off him. He’s large – I didn’t realize he was so tall and broad. Looks to be in great shape.

Ozzie on Edmonds
“He just had a good day,” Guillen said. “I don’t want to promote the guy who’s just hitting [.238 and stuff]. He just had a good day. Good for them. I think I’d rather have him out there than [ Alfonso] Soriano. ... “Believe me, I do. Jim is a veteran player who knows what he’s doing. He swings the bat well and they got him because someone got hurt or whatever the reason is. Hopefully he doesn’t have another game like that against us.” ... “Jim is Jim. Jim is not going to scare me,” Guillen said. “I will pitch to him another time. He just hit a couple of home runs. Good for him.”http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/cs-080621-ozzie-guillen-jim-edmonds-cubs-sox,1,124032.story

maybe not the most polite point, but Ozzie's right
If Tim Duncan (or whatever, insert poor three point shooter) drains one from downtown, I’m taking a step back and telling him he can’t do it again.

jose
One of the big reasons Jose Contreras posted great numbers this season was the reduction in home runs allowed. Today against the Cubs, he nearly doubled his season total. Contreras came into the game with just four long balls against him, but the Cubs hit three of their four dingers off the White Sox starter.http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/027358.php

I suspect a lot of it had to do with the efficacy of the forkball
I think it would make a lot of sense if we started to regard him as a knuckler.

Sweeney
I saw him in ST a few years ago, he has a pretty swing. Looked good. That was before he was exposed to our minor league instruction. Soon that all fields swing got a tad long. Now with the As he can suddenly hit again. Its a miracle.

narrative controlling your perception a bit?
Sweeney: low line drive percentage, high BABIP and no power and is being platooned. He may develop under A’s tutelage, but right now there’s nothing suggesting he has.
