Display:

I have two lineups

One for lefties, one for righties

vs LHP

1. Swisher RF
2. Cabrera SS
3. Quentin LF
4. Thome DH
5. Fields 3B
6. Dye 1B
7. Ramirez 2B
8. Hall C
9. Anderson CF

vs RHP

1. Cabrera SS
2. AJ C
3. Quentin LF
4. Dye RF
5. Crede 3B
6. Thome DH
7. Konerko 1B
8. Swisher CF
9. Ramirez 2B

Dye’s played 1B before in spot duty but if his defense is atrocious/he puts up a hissy fit swap him and Swisher in RF.

Is "wait until July" an option?

I mean, other than tinkering with DH against lefties or maybe moving Swish to the 2-hole, or replacing Ozuna with Richar/Getz , can’t we wait to see the impact of the Cell and some baseball weather? Or even the Luck Gods looking the other way for a change?
Other than that, I’ve got nothing other than turning off talk radio and not reading the dailies.

I wanted to start a rumor about that.

Bonds signs with the Chicago White Stockings!!

What would Kittle do??

by thecip on Jun 3, 2008 4:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

just saying.

there’s a growing concern that jim thome is over the hill. some might say that finding out what kind of shape bonds is in and, if satisfactory, then releasing thome and bringing in bonds wouldn’t be a terrible course of action. mind you, i’m not suggesting it. but one might argue that paying thome his $4million or so that the sox themselves owe him (phillies money would presumably follow him), ensuring that his option for next year doesn’t vest, and replacing him with a guy who OPSed 1.045 last year, along with using josh fields as his caddy against lefties, is prudent.

i like the idea

in a vacuum, but I can only imagine the Chicago media shitstorm that follows a Bonds signing. Frankly, I don’t want him to sign with anyone. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing him play, but I cannot take the sports media’s “take” on it. ESPN is already unwatchable.

I really just want my team to play baseball, not be Chicago’s version of Access Hollywood.

if something is unwatchable, why watch it?

if something is unreadable, why read it?

just to play devil’s advocate, bonds doesn’t care. it wouldn’t affect his performance in all likelihood. the question then is whether it would affect others. this is a pretty veteran club and this is also a club overall that already deals with a pretty harsh media generally. i wouldn’t be overly concerned with the effect on them. you’d need to worry about fan reaction, too, but winning, or at least good performance by a particular player, tends to cure all.

and as near as i can tell, the suntimes has already taken care of tabloiding this team – without bonds.

Ultimate media apolexy

DL Konerko, sign Bonds, put Bonds in left, Quentin in right, Dye at 1st.

Lineup:
SS Cabrera
LF Bonds
RF Quentin
1B Dye
DH Thome
3B Crede
C Pierzynski
2B Ramirez
CF Swisher

Konerko comes back to either platoon with Thome or take over DH from Thome after a rehab assignment in which he demonstrates he can hit.

There’s not much to do, at least that’s not just a meaningless shuffling of the deck. I’d like to replace Ozuna with an actual major-league talent, but even I admit that Ozuna’s presence isn’t the problem here.

First, I acknowledge that there's not much that can be done...
vs RHP vs. LHP
Thome Swish
Cabrera Cabrera
Pierzynski Quentin
Quentin Dye
Dye Crede
Ramirez Ramirez
Crede Hall
Konerko Konerko
Swish/BA Thome

In 4-5 days time, I assess the health of Konerko and Fields. If Kong still sucks, and Fields is healthy, I bring up Fields to take his place. Even if Kong is starting to hit, I bring up a healthy Fields, ousting Ozuna, who was the third pinch running option behind Anderson and Wise last week. If he’s not even your first pinch running option, is there any single skill he holds that can’t be better covered by somebody else?. Fields doesn’t have to play every day, but find a spot for him in the rotation of losers, and let him play vs. LHP.

Aside from that, there’s not much to be done. The Sox are what they are, and rotating at least one of the slumping slow white guys out of the lineup is about their best option right now.

and I thought about it last week when Wise was in over Anderson and then Ozuna. Ozuna has no value on our bench.

Since there can't be much done to improve the starting lineup...

try to improve the bench:

  • Send Brian Anderson to AAA and sign Kenny Lofton.
  • DFA Pablo Ozuna and call up Josh Fields.

Why do you want to send away our best defensive outfielder

by Tdogg on Jun 3, 2008 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

So send BA to AAA and play Swisher

when he has the better slugging %, same amount of doubles in less than half the at bats and he is a much better fielder. So his SO/BB ration isn’t the best but how many days in a row does he get to see live pitches and how much is NS’s OBP is from the beginning of the season…why can’t swisher put his high energy into his swing….

by ozziesmallballs on Jun 3, 2008 2:49 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

So we don't need a backup center fielder?

Because Lofton ain’t it. I agree that he looks pretty good off the bench, but why would you send down Anderson when he’s serving his role well?

BA’s doing better than I expected, though he can look horrific one at-bat and great the next. Infuriating. (I have to remember he’s young. When my Dad saw him Sunday he said, God, he looks 15 years old!” If he were an alternative lifestyle Clemens that might be good, but he’s not, I believe.)

I agree with you...

Lofton is definitely not the defensive center fielder that he once was. Maybe replace Wassermann with Lofton and keep Anderson on the roster? But I also like Ozzie having seven relievers to play with.

Add salt. Stir. Wait.

But T, who do you sit? Sit Swish for a game or two, play BA. He’s doing well in CF and occasionally has smacked a pitch or two. Give Toby a shot at 1B (smiles) for a game or two. Hell, give Thomer a glove and spell Paulie for a bit. I’d throw Uribe at 3rd for a game or two but he looked like a lunatic at the plate Sunday, and looks bigger in person (the camera takes away 10 lbs. where he is concerned).

Otherwise, I got nuthin. I like Cheat’s lineups, especially moving Slash up to 6th.

by Hoosier on Jun 3, 2008 3:08 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

There's nothing for Swish to figure out

stats and personal observation tell me that he’s getting supremely unlucky. Unless we start delving into some pitch by pitch stuff that I don’t think we have, I’m not sure there’s anything to do except let him hit. If my manager told me he was in need of a break, I’d let BA play a few in a row.

So the only real change to make is Ozuna for a healthy Fields and keep checking up on Konerko. If DL is necessary, then bring on Josh. I’m sure the whole purpose of keeping Joe and Fields was because this is exactly the sort of situation we’d find ourselves in. Lo and behold, that day is here. Or almost anyway.

Lofton doesn’t make sense on a team chock full of corner OF options. Hatteberg sucks and Fields is cheaper and better.

that too!

The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

The two [KW & OZ) always talk after a road trip, but nothing “official.” Leave to the Chicago media to create a phantom showdown.

For added fun

Headed over to Royal Review for a look. He has been surprisingly absent from SSS since the season started. I thought they were supposed to overtake the Sox this year? Anyway more of the same I hate Oz, I hate Kenny, I hate whatever and of course the “quotes” from posters.

I think Im really beginning to dig this “bad guys” or hated image.

The SSS motto should be the answer to "What is our deepest fear?". Or maybe just Prozac.

That's just odd -- the hating that is...

Ozzie is tremendously deferential to other teams in general.

If Pods leads in not swinging with the ball in the strike zone too

i just wish

we had a good beat reporter in this town, some of the things i had to hear are awful, and buster olney needs to quit reposting bad articles and start getting the pulse of a fan base before writing anything.

i think pablo needs to go, but after watching spring training with my own eyes, I know getz is not ready, eldred is a hr or strikeout and cant field, i hate just wasting fields to platoon even when he is better then thome, and probably konerko at this point

anyway i dont know how even if alexi likes up 2nd we get some solid bench guys, like a ryan freel, or some decent pirate fielder because thier mlb’s 4a team

by the way can we impose a fine on paulie for his sissy bat flip

Use Pablo as a laser sword dummy. Oh, and purchase speed upgrades for Kong and Thome.

He’s never gotten over being wrong, wrong, wrong about the Sox in ‘05. Always looking to skewer Ozzie.

I took the "under".

He can’t even get his facts straight.

The Sox weren’t swept over the weekend.

I know he’s a KC homer and all, but that douchebag should really get his facts straight.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

He didn’t like the whitesox because of their uniforms.

Whats not to like about the classic unis. Mope.

Its getting better

On the Score “Ozzie stated that he protected Greg Walker, and that if my name is going on be out there so is his.”

right afterwords they asked Greg about Ozzies comments.

Greg Walker “Out of respect for the owner, I have no comment”

Everyone predicted this...

That Ozzie’s mouth would eventually get him fired.

by SSH2005 on Jun 3, 2008 5:41 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think that Ozzie Guillen ought to try the Hillary Clinton approach

Even if the White Sox do not win the Central Division at the end of September, he ought to claim that the pennant race is not yet over, that the White Sox are not done and that they still lead in the hearts and minds of a majority of baseball fans over the Twins. The White Sox, after all drew more fans than the Twins and beat them in home attendance, a clear measure of the fans’ preference for the Sox. Furthermore, even if the Twins won more games, they are the weaker of the two teams to take on the Angels, Rays, and Red Sox in the playoffs and that the White Sox stack up better in a hypothetical World Series against the NL winner than do the Twins. Thus, in the interest of the American League and of the unity of baseball in general, the commissioner ought to intervene and declare the White Sox the Central Division champion.

Suggestion?

Bring back the crazy facial hair that they started the season with. That should bring back Swisher’s ‘awesome’, no? Also, more blow up dolls.

much ado about nothing

for all the consternation on this site about the offense, this is the best people can do? make a couple lineup changes? platoon some people? call up fields? shuffle the deck chairs? at least SSH went outside the organization, if only for the bench. weak pretty much all around.

by larry on Jun 3, 2008 7:21 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

OK, I'll bite

Bring in Widger, Politte, Hermanson, Truth. Trade for Blum, Harris, Timo, Frank, El Duque, Gooch, Pods. And in July, do a reverse-whie flag trade and get Rowand for Thome and Swisher, Garland for Javy.

Then sit back and start counting the wins.

I took the "under".
