Ugh.

I predict a Dotel meltdown here.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Jun 6, 2008 9:03 PM CDT reply actions

Why?

Dotel has always been a good reliever and he has been studly in a Sox uniform. Just look at his strikeouts per 9 innings.

jordan danks expected to sign
Williams felt as if the selection of Jordan Danks, in a lower round than he was originally projected, almost served the purpose of making up for the lost second-round pick to Milwaukee via the free agent signing of Scott Linebrink. John Danks, who nervously moved around the clubhouse on Thursday waiting to hear about his brother, understandably was excited to receive the news on Friday.

With the younger Danks expected to sign, it should be a true family affair in Spring Training next March.

Pretty huge for us...

We will have a top outfield prospect to replace Sweeney, but Danks is even better.

If anyone is still smarting over our inability to touch Kazmir last Saturday in TB....

he’s 1 running the Rangers in Arlington after 7 tonight…..and they have been the hottest hitting team in baseball over the last several games.

I was clamoring for Fields over Crede this spring

Of course I thought Crede could get a good prospect or two and the Sox weren’t going to contend for anything except most mediocre.

Glad I’ve beenwrong so far.

I'm glad to see Thornton used more lately

Now all he has to do use is use Logan more…

Every time I see Dotel I fear his arm detaching itself.

Logan had a problem with his foot if I remember right, but supposedly he’s fine now.

Good job, offense

After the same game that prompted Ozzie’s tirade, I blasted our offense for their lack of focus and discipline at the plate. I suggested benching and sending down players. Well, I was wrong (although I still do not like homer or nothin’ Thome—2 double plays tonight). The players responded. Cabrera is hitting very well. Swisher seems to have gotten his swing back. Crede has become his self again. I do not regret criticizing those players, but I did learn to have more patience.

Greg Walker is a fine hitting coach, who should not be blamed for a lack of hitting by veterans. I also hate it when I read or hear about Ozzie possibly being fired. How many of us know the other White Sox manager that won the World Series? Let Ozzie be Ozzie.

On Wisconsin!

Missed the game

But holy shit, no one on the Sox struck out today? Not even Thome? Color me impressed, well except for Loaiza, apparently the reincarnation of his 2003 season begins later.

Rusty Longley v 2.0

by Ozzie Montana on Jun 6, 2008 10:49 PM CDT reply actions

I will give Loaiza a pass for tonight...

He hasn’t pitched for awhile and Crede probably should have made that play for an out. But Loaiza’s velocity tonight isn’t what I remembered. Gameday says that he was throwing around 85 – 88 MPH, although he did touch 90 in two pitches against the last batter Cuddyer. Gone are the days of his low 90’s fastball and sickening cutter I guess. Man, was he a stud in 2003. When he rode that nasty cutter down and in on righties, they couldn’t touch it.

by SSH2005 on Jun 6, 2008 11:22 PM CDT up reply actions

He appeared to be throwing batting practice

But I’ll cut him some slack for now, since he hadn’t pitched for a month.

But NEXT time…

Offense or Pitching?

The Texas Rangers Lead the AL in BA, OBP, & SLG. They also lead in runs score, 30 more than the #2 Red Sox (1/2 run per game more).

The Rangers are 31 – 32, 1 game under .500.

The Rangers are always high in offensive rankings due to their ballpark.

Meanwhile, in recent years they have traded away Chris Young, John Danks, Edinson Volquez, and Armando Galaragga. Just think about the rotation that the Rangers could have had right now…

Edinson Volquez
Chris Young
John Danks
Kevin Millwood
Armando Galarraga

Obviously, they wouldn’t have Hamilton right now if they didn’t trade Volquez but they need pitching more than offense.

boston fights smart

Three Red Sox were suspended: Crisp for seven games, pitcher Jon Lester for five games and first baseman Sean Casey for three games.

Five Rays were penalized by MLB disciplinarian Bob Watson: Shields for six games, DH-outfielder Jonny Gomes and pitcher Edwin Jackson for five games each, outfielder Carl Crawford for four games and second baseman Akinori Iwamura for three games.

the suspensions are staggered, per usual. but the rays are going to be hit pretty hard with these guys being out.
