Whitlock's latest column made me LOL

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8331492/NBC

Everyone I mention in today’s column — except Jay Mariotti — is someone I like personally, respect professionally and hope will understand I have a job to do. My job is to tell you what I honestly think, not to play kissy-face with my peers in the media.

i really like him after that interview

but his shtick (for lack of a better word) is getting old. He really needs to rein it in. His last piece on Dana Tarres was awful, especially tihs quote

A white Jewish mother 12 days older than I is the star of the U.S. Olympic swimming trials

Seems awfully racist for a man that loves speaking out against racism

Can't even write that off as a typo, "r" and "n" are no where near eachother

I should have added his whole article was about him assuming that she was on PED’s beacuse there’s no way she could have broken the world record, especially not a “A white Jewish mother 12 days older than I”

In that sense, I think it’s unnecessary and offensive

by jeeves on Jul 10, 2008 8:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

this coming from a brown, Christian son many years younger than Whitlock

so it’s like that comment struck a chord with me, it’s just plain bad

by jeeves on Jul 10, 2008 8:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'd take issue with his premise -

this is the most pampered athlete on the planet. She has 2 – TWO – “stretchers” and 3 other coaches and a nanny for her 2 year old. She works her ass off but does nothing but be a mom and train.

His style isn’t disturbing, but the fat sack of shit has to understand that working out usually improves performance. His conclusion is inelegant and wrong.

I will agree that sticking Jewish in there seems strange or extraneous, but racist? Not so sure.

by colintj on Jul 10, 2008 8:39 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I guess it depends on the tone you're reading it with

the way I read it was. She has to be on steroids. Not only is she a mom, but she’s white, and she’s jewish. I took each adjective to be a reason that she shouldn’t be athletic which is where i get the racism. The white really sticks out too because almost all world class American swimmers are white save for cullen jones

But I am glad he’s willing to say what he thinks. The whole country gets into a screamfest it seems like every time someone says something they don’t like. It would be better to explain what makes them wrong in dulcet tones, but that’s fairly rare.

Agreed

but people want to hear themselves speak (or yell) and are not interested in listening to another opinion.

Keep it in mind next time you’re talking with someone. Makes sure you’re talking “with” them and not “at” them. Sorry, probably preaching to the quire here.

Anyways, it’s really depressing, considering what needs to be done in the world while everyone stands around with their thumbs up their arses yelling at eachother.

Just when the Quentin deal couldn't look any worse for AZ...

Quote from BP’s “under the knife column”

Speed players and hamstrings are a bad combination, so what does tearing it completely do for Byrnes in the long term? He’s out for the season! The question now is whether the three-year deal he signed last season becomes a drag on the young D’backs. I think it does, because there are really no good comps for players having this type of injury and coming back and being productive. Some have, but none have come back to provide the speed/hustle combination that the Shaggy One uses. I’m not convinced that Byrnes without his speed is anything more than a fourth outfielder, and those players shouldn’t make $10 million per year. Byrnes’ leg isn’t so bad that he’ll need surgery, though the recovery time is going to be roughly the same. He’ll be ready for spring training, but his future depends on adjusting his game.

Coffee is for closers.

Traditional Haggis

Traditional Haggis
1 sheep’s pluck (stomach bag)
2 lb.. dry oatmeal
1 lb. suet
1 lb. lamb’s liver
2 1/2 cups stock
1 large chopped onion
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper, Jamaica pepper and salt
Boil liver and parboil the onion, then mince them together. Lightly brown the oatmeal. Mix all ingredients together. Fill the sheep’s pluck with the mixture pressing it down to remove all the air, and sew up securely. Prick the haggis in several places so that it does not burst. Place haggis in boiling water and boil slowly for 4-5 hours. Serves approximately 12.

Like in 2003?

When he cost the Sox the division?

Or how about how he still looks really really bad at the plate.

Or that his OPS is .650.

If you think replacing Konerko with Richie Sexson would do any good

When the Sox would be better off just picking and choosing their spots when to play Paulie, you’re crazy.

Nice job Paul Konerko and the bullpen! Konerko could at least get a hit once and a while if you can’t handle a routine throw in the infield. Shame to waste a great performace by Mark with such lousy play behind himand the inability to score more than one run.

Errors are horrible to judge fielding obviously

But common sense says PK has little range. He’s already made 5 errors this year (plus this gaffe) in only 59 games. I’d say he’s making a habit of shitty play.

I saw F. Liriano tonight

He was lights out and now has 3 straight scoreless starts. If the Twinkies called him up and shot Livan in the back of the head, I’d be really scared. Rumor is they will wait awhile, though. As it is I’m still more scared of the Tiggers.

Perhaps my exploits were missed tonight :)

anyway…didn’t see the game.

Fair to say we didn’t play very well in the series but a series win on the road no matter who the opponent is success.

We’ve still gained 1.5 on the Twins this week and hopefully can maintain/stretch the lead over the weekend.

However, I’m definitely a bit concerned about Arlington. Those guys can flat out mash, and even though Floyd and Danks are pitching I think our tired pitching staff could be in for a long weekend. They don’t pitch very well, but we’ve got a few guys (AJ, CREDE, PK, SWISH) fighting it right now…we’ll see.

Okay last bit before I go do something fun this eve

Should I start doing series previews that are basically BUOs for the hitters? And I’ll work on doing our guys (pitchers and hitters) over the ASB. Those might include both ‘07 and ‘08 numbers just to be more thorough for the home team.

Email to Oz 7/10/08

I can no longer lurk…..

Emailed to Ozzie

Ozzie,
What the fuck is Konerko still doing on the field. What, are you in love with his .083 BA since he came back from the DL or is it his stellar defense, I’m sure Buhrle appreciates that! How about Swisher at 1st and Wise in Center. Bat whoever is hotter, Konerko or Thome at DH.

I realize, if we give Paulie enough time, he’ll start hitting into Double plays again! So how’s this, ” thank you for 2005 Paulie, now sit your ass down!” Oz, I thought you were supposed to have balls. We have a real chance to win this year, stop being a pussy and kissing Paulies and Thome’s ass! Don’t blow this Ozzie!
