BP: Chicago v. Chicago

interesting delve into the dynamics between the sox and cubs. more of a historical or cultural analysis.

Way back when, the Cubs certainly didn't want the company. In 1901, they sued Charles Comiskey to enjoin him from moving his minor league team, the St. Paul Saints, to Chicago to join the fledgling American League. The Cubs' maneuver failed, but they did make a couple of demands: Comiskey's team couldn't have "Chicago" in its name, and, at least in a sanctioned capacity, the team wasn't allowed to play any games above 35th Street. In a withering rejoinder of sorts, Comiskey called his club the "White Stockings," which once upon a time was what the Cubs were before they were the Cubs, and played his earliest games at old South Side Park, on 39th and Wentworth, just four blocks south of the line of demarcation. So there.

You can google and get the whole story and history.

And yes you should subscribe less then 40 bucks a year and well worth it.

The SSS motto should be the answer to "What is our deepest fear?". Or maybe just Prozac.

Tom Emanski Is Rolling In His Grave

The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

That clip

has had me laughing with tears all day… I think it may be partly because of the commentators too

Mile-stone's throw away
Jim Thome went 1-for-3 with 2 walks and an RBI Friday, pulling him with 2 hits of 2,000 for his career. Thome has gone 13-for-16 during his current 7-game hitting streak.

Really?

13-16!? Damn, I didn’t realize he was on that good of a little streak. I was too busy trying to find Twins scores.

The Twins are not good, please stop posting their score.

Not so impressive.

He missed 3 of them, the POS.

Overheard at a Cubs friendly bar last night

After the Cubs lost (I was hiding my smile) and the Sox game was put on:

Ribby and Rhubarb

Can anyone find pictures of Ribby and Rhubarb? My mom calls Southpaw “Ribby” at every game and my dad thinks she’s crazy, explaining that there is no such thing as a Ribby or Rhubarb

No recap after four days off?

I guess all the hipster SSSers are busy with the Pitchfork Festival this weekend. I’m imagining Colin watching Fleet Foxes in the rain right now, trying to type up his BUO in time for the game tonight. Cursing his iPhone. Ducking under a crowd surfer.

It's weird.

It hasn’t rained at my place since before noon. But I know it’s been pouring at Union Park a lot today (texts from people I know at the festival today), which is only two miles south of me. And I hear it’s been coming down all day in Bridgeport.

Crazy

Weather is beautiful in Rockford… no reason why I referred to Chicago as up there in my last post btw.

I was thinking of going to a show at Charter 1 today… glad I didn’t.

As for pitchfork… well I’m not a hipster thats for sure, but I have a few friends that are

This sitee is in a world of shti

Fortunately, it’s free, so I can’t complain. Cheat goes on a wine and cheese tour and eveything falls apart. Oh well, at least we have the Sox and a site. For, by, and of the fans.

CWS: Slashing negative expectations since May, 2008.

Oh, did Cheat say he'd be gone this weekend?

If I had a more steady schedule of getting to see games, I woud’ve volunteered to do occassional recaps. Of course, the one time I did write one in ‘06 I said something like “the Sox are on a roll and playing like we thought they should’ve all season long.” Shortly thereafter they proceeded to play like complete shit and knock themselves outta contention.

The Twins are not good, please stop posting their score.

Sportscenter

I guess this explains why last night White Sox game was not reported or highlights shown on Saturday’s AM sportscenter show. am I the only one who noticed this?
