If Floyd would just throw strikes...

This ump’s zone is pretty large and Floyd could dominate them if he keeps hitting the inside corner.

I love how D.J. thinks that fouling off pitches with two strikes is a totally new thing...

that no one ever did when he was playing.

D.J., you never fouled off pitches with two strikes because you sucked.

Just sayin'.

Considering how long it took Vazquez, Contreras and Floyd to make noticeable improvements, I’m not sure why anybody’s looking at him as a this-year option.

Nope.

KC announcers mentioned it, didn’t look it up . Only noted the Tigers score because people here had been talking about Cabrera as an option.

Way too early for scoreboard watching.

I always like reading articles about the physics/science of baseball

I found this one interesting

About the time the batter starts to swing—when the ball is about nineteen feet from home—the batter’s eyes suddenly jump to where he anticipates the bat–ball meeting will take place. Why? Because it’s the only way the eye can move fast enough to keep up with the incoming ball. Now that mental model comes into play. Across that brief gap, the ball’s arc is computed by the brain without further reference to the real world. By the time the batter’s eyes pick up the actual ball again, it’s too late in the swing to reposition the bat.

Coffee is for closers.

Beware of Psalm 78

When he struck the rock, water gushed out,
and streams flowed abundantly.
But can he also give us food?
Can he supply meat for his people?”

When the Lord heard them, he was very angry;
his fire broke out against Jacob,
and his wrath rose against Israel,

for they did not believe in God
or trust in his deliverance.

good one.

other teams are going to score and some of those runs will come via the long ball. pitchers can control that to some extent. but the failure to hold guys on and to a lesser extent the wild pitches seem to me more mental errors than failures to execute, and therefore are less excusable.

How long can Cadet SSH hold out???

How can he possibly resist the diabolical urge to push the button that could erase his very existence?!?

Can he withstand the temptation to push the button that even now beckons him ever closer?!? Will he succumb to the maddening urge to eradicate history?!? At the mere push of a single button?!?

The beautiful, shiny button! The jolly, candy-like button! WILL he hold out, folks?!? CAN he hold out?!?

I CAN'T STAND IT.

uh-oh, avilas up

The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

It wasn't the hardest hit ball

but it looked like Nessie hung that pitch to me.

Coffee is for closers.

Why I like Ozzie as a manager

Terrible game, Sox got trounced, and yet he pulls this and manages to put a smile on my face at the end of it.

Coffee is for closers.

sox loss = no smiling allowed.

don’t even think about anything other than frowning until the next sox win. baseball = only thing in life.

Good line from the KC guys

“How many times do you think he’s been called upon as a pinch runner?”
“Well, at 6-2, 255 pounds, I’m guessing this is his maiden voyage.”

I CAN'T STAND IT.

For the chicken littles

Not that it will matter

Sox record against KC in 2008: 6-2
Twins record against KC in 2008: 7-2

Wait even the vaunted Twins lose to KC sometimes?

Coffee is for closers.

so what?!?!? the sox lost by 8 today and the twins beat a better team by 12 runs. that's all that matters.

and, of course, the lessons we learned today, including but not limited to the following:
sox offense = terrible = turns gil meche into cy meche
rangers offense = terrible = turns livan hernandez into cy hernandez
cubs offense = terrible = turns wandy rodriguez (lifetime 4.93 era) into cy rodriguez
