White Sox Interested in Huston Street?
Apparently the Sox have shown interest in Oakland closer Huston Street. Perhaps trading for a starter should be a bigger priority right now, and the Sox might not have what it takes to get Street, but it's always good to know that KW is trying. According to Foxsports.com's Ken Rosenthal:
The Mets, White Sox, Dodgers and Brewers have all expressed varying degrees of interest in A's reliever Huston Street. The Mets and White Sox probably do not match up with the A's, and the Dodgers are more focused on their pursuit of a shortstop.

Buster Olney on BBTN...
just mentioned the Brewers and the White Sox scouting Huston Street. He isn’t sure either team will meet Beane’s asking price, even though he hasn’t looked good this season.

catcher naturally
He was a catcher with the Orioles back in the day. Sorry looking (expletive). My brother had his card. He looked like this little kid who got left at a bus station by his parents. You know why? Because he had to catch Hoyt Wilhelms knuckle ball five (expletive) years.

Trading w/ Oakland
I forget who it was as few days ago, but one of the talking heads on ESPN asked “If Billy Beane comes calling, don’t you have to worry you’re about to lose on the trade?”

The Swisher trade is debatable at this point...
The Quentin trade is not.

debatable, sure, but dumping de los santos at the right time, and phat freddy, and mike sirotka, too, right?
and though the jury is still out on the vazquez trade, chris young has not had the breakout year people expected.

with it still being up in the air
one thing the jury needs to keep in mind, that often gets missed when people do try to analyze it, is that while vazquez’s contract was for two more years (through 2007), because he demanded a trade pursuant to his rights under the CBA, vazquez would have been unable to file for free agency after 2007 and would have been arbitration eligible. hence, the analysis should be three years of javy (06-08), not two.

Sox linked to every available pitcher...
including George Sherrill. I think Kenny is looking for a righty reliever instead and maybe another starter.
The Cardinals are one of the best fits because they have blown a National League-high 23 save tries this season. The Brewers, who have already acquired starting pitcher CC Sabathia and second baseman Ray Durham, are still looking to upgrade the back end of their bullpen. Other teams that potentially could be interested are the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, New York Mets and New York Yankees.
Also, the link says that the Orioles probably aren’t trading Brian Roberts.

23 Blown Saves...
How do they have a winning record. And how does their GM not get them a closer.
I don’t get why the Brewers would make the splash and get Sabathia and not go for a closer too. If your going to go for it.. gotta go all the way.

A blown save can mean a few things.
Someone should see how many late inning comebacks they’ve managed.

Torres "blew" one last night
because Weeks muffed 2 plays at 2nd. Then all won it with a 10th inning dinger.
Good point.

I know Bowden is dumb...
but is anyone beginning to think that Kenny should be able to acquire a decent reliever by the deadline now? If a scrub prospect like Emilio Bonifacio can net the D-backs a nice back-end reliever like Jon Rauch (locked up for 3-years at $6.1 million total), Kenny might be able to grab a decent reliever for someone like Lance Broadway.

The Sox have Carrasco and Masset in the bullpen...
and Logan is starting to get beat up. And we know Linebrink isn’t likely to pitch as lights-out as he did in the first half. I would like to see the Sox pick up one more stud reliever to replace Carrasco so Masset can stay the bullpen’s jizz-mopper.

billy beane is doing it now, too. maybe KW was on to something.

Interesting how BB gets the benefit of the doubt
but KW generally does not. BB is a genius and obviously has a plan that we just can’t determine yet, but KW hasn’t a clue.
Racists.
PS Question: How have Guillen and KW been left off the “mid-year awards” by the media? Ozzie’s done a great job, IMO, and KW (though, as others have commented, stripped the farm bare this winter) has us in a position to get into the post-season.
Answer: Racism.

KW needs a computer to write a book about him.
joe morgan would probably like that book because he’s racist, too.

Dodgers not interested in Huston Street...
The Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers “don’t appear to be interested” in Huston Street or Bobby Crosby.
The San Francisco Chronicle speculated Tuesday that the Dodgers had been scouting the A’s recently and could be interested in both players.Source: Los Angeles Times

I'd take bobby crosby
but I wouldn’t pay much for him. I don’t have a barometer on what he would be worth given contracts, etc., but I thought I would throw it out there.

Dude's had one good season in his career in 2005 and he's always injured.

Yeah, that's why I wouldn't pay much for him
I was just going off the fact that he was mentioned in the LA times story you linked to and wanted to say I would take him on my baseball team. I wouldn’t count on him for shit and I wouldn’t pay the man or give up anything for him, but if I were an owner or a gm, I’d allow him to be on my team.

Was this mentioned somewhere?
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8371098/Washburn-too-expensive,-even-for-Yanks
Earlier this month, the White Sox contacted the Dodgers to gauge their interest in Cabrera, explaining that their desire to move him hinged on whether they could complete a separate deal. That deal, from all indications, was a trade for Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts. The White Sox then would have moved Alexei Ramirez from second base to shortstop, his original position.
The Sox’s plan went nowhere, but their general manager, Ken Williams, is always concocting new, grandiose ways to improve the club. Chances are, Williams will be quiet at the non-waiver deadline. But it’s hardly certain.
That’d be a pretty unprecedented move, wouldn’t it? I’d add any non-Fields prospect as a sweetener to what the Dodgers would be sending to Baltimore (presumably LaRoche). It’s a move that would certainly improve the offense a bunch and would only make the defense worse by a bit (I’m assuming - perhaps unfairly - that for the rest of the year Alexei would be right around average (probably a bit worse than average) defensively, but Roberts would be an improvement over Alexei at second).
by CWSKeith on Jul 23, 2008 4:41 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I posted it somewhere...
I think it would have been a great move, assuming that it would be a non-Fields prospect like you said and that the Sox think that Alexei has the glove for SS. Even if Alexei failed miserably at SS defensively, you still have Uribe as a fallback plan. Ramirez + Roberts in the lineup over Ramirez + Cabrera seems like it would be a big boost to the offense—almost .200 more points of OPS.

Peter Gammons on ESPN is reporting that...
Huston Street has been offered to the White Sox and two other teams. Apparently, Beane has an idea of what package of prospect(s) he would take in exchange for Street from each of the three teams.

Dodgers, Brewers, Mets, White Sox, Rays, and Reds all interested in Huston Street...
Street stuff: With a week left before the trading deadline, rumors involving Huston Street have intensified, with the Dodgers, Brewers, Mets, White Sox, Rays and Reds all believed to have interest. Los Angeles had two scouts at the series against Tampa Bay, including Bill Lajoie, who is a special adviser to general manager Ned Coletti.
