White Sox Book Recommendations?
I am looking for some more White Sox summer reading as I just finished and enjoyed "Sox and the City" by Richard Roeper. It seems the list of White Sox books is rather thin as I have read "Though Hope and Despair" by Dan Helpingstine and Ron Kittle's book.
Although I would read a book about the championship season, I would prefer something that goes into their history a bit more. It seems that some books came out after the Series that were more about making a quick dollar because of the market rather than the quality of content.

Dave Condon's book from 1960 or so is an excellent
history of the Sox after the 1959 pennant. I have no clue of any others, other than the Veeck books.

That sentence is crap.
The book was written right after the Sox won the pennant in ‘59, and is an excellent retrospective of their history through ‘59. Sorry.

yeah, me want to read that too
He was a catcher with the Orioles back in the day. Sorry looking (expletive). My brother had his card. He looked like this little kid who got left at a bus station by his parents. You know why? Because he had to catch Hoyt Wilhelms knuckle ball five (expletive) years.

I would recommend it as well.
(Big surprise there. The Hustler’s Handbook ain’t bad either.)
A fun book of lists and short essays geared toward kids is Rich Lindberg’s Stuck on the Sox, written just as the South Side Hit Men scattered to the winds of free agency. Lindberg’s got a couple other histories of the Sox out, but that one captures life with Bob Molinaro, Jorge Orta, and Don Kessinger like nothing else.

EIGHT MEN OUT YO
by Eliot Asinof. Frankly, I’m disappointed the first three posters on this thread did not mention this ;-)

How about OPOS?
you couldn’t come up with better material? This guy is loaded with material. He’s short, Italian, married, a runner, a father of a female gymnast (not that I would go there), a wine-o, drives a SUV, works as an investment adviser – there’s enough material for a seemingly endless string of put downs.
I’ve got jokes and jokes and jokes and jokes.

Eight Men Out seconded
although to like the book, you have to be not only interested in not only the White Sox but also the historical perspective of fixing games. In any case, it’s a great and (relatively) quick read.

"When Chicago ruled baseball"
is about 1917(?) when the Sox and Cubs played in the World Series against each other. Can’t find it around here or I’d give you the author.
Show mercy. I get to watch the Rangers.

That would be the 1906 series
In 1917 the Sox beat the Giants.
