Jenks expected to be available soon: White Sox closer dealing with pain in non-throwing arm
Bobby Jenks compared the pain currently residing under his left scapula as something that feels like a cramp.http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080703&content_id=3058961&vkey=news_cws&fext=.jsp&c_id=cwsIt’s a “cramp” that has sidelined the burly closer for four days as of Thursday’s series opener against the A’s. But Jenks doesn’t see a trip to the disabled list in his immediate future.
“If it was not getting better, yeah,” said an upbeat Jenks, sitting in front of his locker with his eldest son prior to Thursday’s contest. “Since it is getting better, hopefully we don’t have to discuss the possibility of the DL.
“Everything physical is on hold right now. It’s just a lot of treatment. I’m here every day at noon in the back, getting pounded on.” ...

I meant you with the Cubs
“I listened to North last week for a few minutes while driving to work. He spent 10 minutes talking about how Scott Linebrink has been a better reliever than Carlos Marmol so far this season based on Linebrink’s slightly lower ERA. Intelligent callers were trying to convince North that there are other important stats like WHIP and K/9, etc. but he wasn’t having it. Meanwhile, Marmol has given up 18 hits and 14 walks in 40 innings, good for a 0.80 WHIP. He also has 60 strikeouts so he is averaging 13.50 K’s per 9 innings.”

Funny you mention your reticence to share the site with your wife
Mine always thinks I’m on a porn site when she walks in the room because I minimize the screen. I’ve taken to leaving it up now so she can get a peek at it and not think I’m a perv 24 hours a day.

but I caught an early evening nap after a long bike ride on a fine afternoon; went from 5-8. That killed the BUO and probably our lead too.

Speaking of stewing.
You think he was concentrating on Cust after ruining his perfect 20K game?
by Trooper on Jul 3, 2008 8:20 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Good question.
I may be talking out my ass here, but he seems to be “streaky”. Seems to give up the big inning, so I think when he’s on a roll, either postive or negative, it’s hard for him to reverse it.
I know we said that about Garland for awhile, so maybe it’s nothing different from any other pitcher. Javy just seems to let the bad times snowball. And then, it’s gone. Which is why he’s the most frustrating guy for me to watch.

I think I agree.
Same with Buehrle after an error, no? With him though, he pitches so fast and throws strikes that I chalk it up to the other team riding the momentum.

Disappointing
I know the Cell is a launching pad, but Oakland’s lineup tonight is not imposing. Seriously….Donnie Murphy should not be taking Vazquez deep. It doesn’t bode well for the future against other teams….
by hitlesswonder on Jul 3, 2008 8:23 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I'm just saying if Vazquez gives up 3 runs to OAK, it makes me worry about how he'll fare against a real offense
by hitlesswonder on Jul 3, 2008 8:26 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's OK to say that it was disappointing and somewhat shocking that Javy
gave up a home run to Donnie Murphy, but I’m just not sure how that leads you to the conclusion that we are in trouble from here on out. The other guy that hit the HR is one of the more prolific HR hitters in the AL since last year.
by stanchar on Jul 3, 2008 8:28 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm not saying that the Sox are in trouble
I’m specifically concerned about Vazquez who has pitched badly for a good long streak now, including tonight. Even if he gets away with a quality start here, he doesn’t look like he’s turning things around. That’s all I’m saying
by hitlesswonder on Jul 3, 2008 8:30 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sure it does -
he’s much improved over his last 5 starts (if he keeps it at 3 tonight).

We’ve played a few games at the Cell this year and, last time I looked, are hanging in there OK. Like almost the best home record in the majors.
What trouble are you expecting?

sox pitching staff
have given up 38 dingers in the last month, tied for 3rd in the league. i don’t mind if most of them are solo shots though…

we spent the first couple months waaaaay under average
6-7% of flyballs were going out. 10% is average. that’s probably not what it is at the Cell.

that is true, and
are they above average in flyball right now? whip is 1.24, which is okay, and they’re not giving up walks
