Ozzie doesn't understand the people out there

[Scot Gregor]

"I don't understand the people out there,'' Guillen said. "I don't get it. I sit with (general manager) Kenny (Williams) and we try to do stuff, and all of a sudden we get pounded like we don't try or don't care or do good for the fans or for us. And I don't get it. I trust my players. I think they're good talent and will play hard for us.'' ...

"Hopefully the result will be the right one, because if we win this thing, Billy Martin, Earl Weaver, all those guys will be on diapers with what I'm going to say, because I'm going to rip a lot of people's hearts,'' Guillen said.

"Because enough is enough. What are we going to do to satisfy people? I'm going to say bad stuff about my players?''' ...

"I tell my players every day, 'Give me some bullets to fight for you,' '' Guillen said. "Everything I do in this town is fight for my players. And everyone likes to hammer and hammer and hammer how horse (bleep) I am.

"Check my record as a manager. If the people think I don't want Konerko to be good and make my life easier, not my game, my life . . . and I don't want (Nick) Swisher to be good?

"I want all those guys to be good, I'll be great. If they're bad, I'm the one who will take the consequences and I'll take the blame.

"But I hate people think we're just sitting here and putting people on the field because I'm afraid of Konerko or he's making $20 million or this guy's making money.

"I don't give a (bleep) what they think. I'm going to put the best guy there and see what happens.''

little known fact: ozzie is a communications conduit between hugo chavez and venezuelan sleeper cells within the united states

or maybe he is saying that, bottom line, he acknowledges that his job security is a function of the team’s success on the field, and it is absurd to presume he operates on a hidden agenda that may run contrary to the chances of winning. and if you are one who questions his decisions, and the sox win it all this year, he is going to rip out your heart with a flint knife.

Rangers still have too many catchers since Laird didn't go to the Yanks

I hope the Sox get one to replace Toby next year and AJ down the road. IIRC, we have nothing notaable in our farm system.

Show mercy. I get to watch the Rangers.

Are you kidding me?

No way this happens…

ESPN’s Peter Gammons says the Red Sox and Marlins are engaged in serious talks regarding Manny Ramirez.
Josh Willingham or Jeremy Hermida would be the primary return. Willingham, a right-handed hitter, would be the better replacement for Ramirez this season. However, Hermida is the far more intriguing long-term property, and the Newark Star-Ledger’s Dan Graziano reports that talks are focused on him. The Marlins would also send a prospect Boston’s way, perhaps Jeff Allison.

for this to happen, wouldn’t the sawx have to be uber-confident in ortiz’s health from here on out?

but for the remainder of this year,

they would lose a bunch of offense by replacing manny with either willingham or hermida, wouldn’t they? if so, they would need a healthy ortiz, right?

Sure...

but if they think Ortiz is healthy, they get a very nice replacement for Manny for the next few years and he won’t cost anything.

Manny looks headed to Miami

by John Perrotto

Multipe baseball sources say the Red Sox are on the verge of sending disgrunted left fielder Manny Ramirez to the Marlins in a trade for a package of three players that included low Class A Greensboro outfielder Mike Stanton, an 18-year-old who is hitting .275/.351/.569 with 26 home runs in 96 games.

three way?

by Will Carroll

I’m hearing that a multi-team deal involving Jason Bay and the Florida Marlins is in the "final stages." This could involve the previously in-place dealings involving Manny Ramirez as reported by our own John Perrotto. Joe Frisaro of MLB.com thinks that Bay could end up in Boston, Jeremy Hermida in Pittsburgh, and prospects flying every which way. My sources agree, though I will update as details become clearer.

by larry on Jul 30, 2008 7:46 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The Red Sox and Marlins are talking, major-league sources confirmed, but there was “nothing close,” as of 8:40 p.m. ET Wednesday, according to an official with knowledge of the discussions.

Reports surfaced earlier Wednesday night saying that one of the prospects in a Ramirez trade could be highly regarded outfielder Mike Stanton, the team’s second-round pick last season.

“No way,” one Marlins official said.

“I don’t see a scenario where Mike Stanton would be traded for anyone,” another team official added.

The Marlins almost certainly would resist giving up top prospects for a two-month Ramirez rental unless they also were getting quality young players in return.

8:29pm: Here’s the latest. MLB.com says we’re moving closer to the three-team deal. The Pirates could receive a minor leaguer from the Red Sox. Dejan Kovacevic says the Pirates would receive four or more prospects for Bay, as well as Hermida. John Grabow could end up in Boston or Florida. Perrotto says it could be expanded to have Jed Lowrie go to Pittsburgh and Jack Wilson to Boston. The Bucs also like Red Sox prospect Hunter Jones.

“Dodgers interested in Maddux”
Posted by Buster Olney

The Dodgers and Padres continue to have conversations about veteran starter Greg Maddux, with the two sides beginning the process of exchanging names and perhaps working toward a deal.

Trading for Maddux was a good idea by Larry. He would have been a nice cheap option if he would accept a trade back to Chicago.

Hey, thecip!

(or anyone else who might know the answer…)

How the hell do I download getpaint for my Mac? It keeps downloading in text format and I was able to get it just fine on the pos pc at my office (after downloading the other thing, dotNexFx…)

Anyway, if you have any insight, I’d appreciate it!
