danks, sure. but floyd is well behind in the snub line.
he’s got the fourth best SNLVAR on this team. he’s not even in the top 40 in the AL. anybody who is propping up their ERA by just letting in a bunch of unearned runs (53 runs allowed, 39 of them earned – you can blame your defense, but not that much, gav) doesn’t even come close to a snub.

He knows how to win! He needs to teach Danks

i figured you weren't arguing either way on this
danks obviously is the deserving one from the seamhead perspective. floyd is the deserving one from the counting stats aficionados’ perspective. but i just wanted it clear that floyd is basically jon garland right now.

I have no problem with neither one being selected
Young guys, they have room to grow, expectations were ”?”, and unlike a Lincecom (SI cover, dominating) not enough “Q” factor to supplant others.
Now Dye being left off (and I’d make a case for AJ, too) sucks.

I have a problem
A staff that has ranked 1st or 2nd for much of the season should have at least pitcher on the squad. As stated by either means, counting or saber 1 of the youth should have made it.

By the way Lar
Still waiting on CC to sign that extension. But Laporta is a nice haul for their situation…... The White Sox have the pesky Twins on their ass but the North Siders had REALLy better look out if CC is in that rotation now. They still need a reliever though.

i just didn't rule it out like you did. bravo.
i did say they’d be more likely to trade him if they collapsed. and, oh boy, did they.
who wants paul byrd?

No one...
Byrd, Borowski, and Dellucci being awful this season has hurt their firesale greatly. They will probably end up trading Casey Blake for a mid-level prospect and that’s about it.

Who would have paid/traded anything for Byrd, Borowski and Dellucci prior to '08?

Fairly surprised that Danks isn't on the squad
Was at the game, so I didn’t know whether the pitcher’s had been announced yet, so I was disappointed again when I got back home. Hopefully Sox’ fans can vote their third player in from the last 5 like they did with Pods and AJ.
They had posters at the game that said vote for JD, which looked very much like a presidential campaign. It had a check mark in a box next to “Dye”
Buehrle made a nice speech at the end of the game urging fans to vote for JD.

Wasn't Buehrle traded to
the Red Sox last year? Indians are fools for letting all their homegrown talent leave to greener pastures. I thought the Indians were a proud franchise? I am happy to see CC go if he does, but there is a piece of me who enjoys seeing premiere players in our division. SO LONG Complete Choke!

Jenks may not be available for trip
As the White Sox embark on their final road trip of the first half of the 2008 season, they do so knowing closer Bobby Jenks might not be available in Kansas City or Texas.http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080706&content_id=3081305&vkey=news_cws&fext=.jsp&c_id=cwsJenks, who continues to be bothered by soreness just below his left scapula, missed his seventh straight game on Sunday. The burly right-hander, who has emerged as one of the game’s steadiest last lines of pitching defense, played a little long toss Sunday morning, but he has yet to throw any side sessions since the pain began. ...
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.

ugh that means linebrink can still close
how long before john and jordan danks sit atop the brothers home run list?

Maybe the Sox make room for Kornerko by placing Jenks on the D.L.?
by SSH2005 on Jul 6, 2008 8:40 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
it'd only be temporary anyway, especially since it might be a retroactive placement

it could be good though to let jenks get back to full strength and come back after the break hopefull
put off the decision on who to send down for the time being

i agree with this
the difference between a possibly injured jenks in the pen and the pen without him is not large enough to push bobby out there before he’s ready.

whatever happened to closer by committee

I think he'll have a role on this team in the future for sure.
And, this is kinda crazy, I do wonder if they aren’t trying to groom him to replace Bobby eventually. He’s from the same mold, and they’re keeping him up with Coop despite the fact that he’s got no room to even get in the game.

What's wrong with it? Joe Borowski and Todd Jones can come in and throw an inning
with the bases empty, but Linebrink and Dotel can’t? I’ll grant I’d like to see him play matchups rather than annoint someone, but that’s true if Bobby’s there or he isn’t. Best pitcher for the situation is the optimal trajectory. But it’s not being taken here. The thing is, I don’t think this is going to radically alter the leverage situations for any of Dotel, Linebrink or Thornton.

I think I'd just annoint Dotel the closer.....
and keep Thornton/Linebrink as primary 7th/8th inning guys.
by stanchar on Jul 6, 2008 9:53 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Any reason for Dotel than any of the others? Dotel and Linebrink have been awfully similar so far.

at least dotel has experience in this roll
or just throw nessie in there and see how he handles it…but who knows as long as jenks comes back healthy…that’s what is important other than getting these games closed out without worry before he’s back

closer mentality perhaps? i don't know
it might not make the biggest difference in the world…but dotel has closed before has mainly been used as a setup man

I, for one, am happy no Sox pitchers will be on the All-Star team
It’s a popularity contest with Internet voting by the fans…so who really cares?
Let the rest of the “All-Stars” (like Kerry Wood…tee hee) add innings to their arms while the Sox arms rest…and get ready to pounce in the 2nd half! Hah!
