Here's the entirety of the blurb:

The Pirates yesterday traded right-handed reliever Franklyn German, who was with Class AAA Indianapolis, to the Chicago White Sox for a player to be named.

In two weeks they will win 7 or 8 in a row and you all will have 10 inch boners.

He has been better than Masset

but the walks are concerning. I guess he has never gotten that under control. Coop project? Though he doesn’t appear to be a hard thrower.

German has been clocked at near 100 MPH in the past...

His main problem is control. He walks a lot of guys. Also, he’s Uribe-fat.

Get enough hard throwers with no control in Cooper’s hands and eventually a few will pay off. Hopefully he doesn’t see any meaningful innings this year though.

I really don’t care about how fat a pitcher is, tell me how good he is. I’m pretty sure THBts did some research and found that being fat doesn’t hurt a pitcher at all.

by colintj on Aug 11, 2008 4:40 PM CDT up reply actions

There's no way...

the Sox (or anyone else) offer Griffey arb, though. Draft pick compensation isn’t really an issue.

I did see the numbers on Swisher ’s defense the other day. As usual, I’m not sure what to make of them, although I am more comfortable when Brian Anderson is out there.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Aug 11, 2008 4:46 PM CDT up reply actions

sure compensation is an issue.

if he ends up a type b, no need to offer arbitration to get the pick. automatic.

by larry on Aug 11, 2008 4:51 PM CDT up reply actions

why would you get auto comp for a type B but not type A?

and why wouldn’t we offer him arb? he doesn’t want to play here long term and it would be a year long contract if it stuck.

nothing gets ‘em wetter than infrequent postings on the city’s second favorite team

by colintj on Aug 11, 2008 4:54 PM CDT up reply actions

because that's what the collective bargaining agreement says.

i imagine it has something to do with A comp taking picks from teams whereas Bs just magically appear after the first round.

and because he might say yes and then you’re paying griffey like $10M plus his buyout to not have a place on the white sox? is anyone really going to 1) give griffey more money than he could get in arbitration or 2) offer him much more than a 1 year deal with an option? methinks no. arbitration probably is the best deal money-wise.

with all eyes on the twinkies, i don't think it's been mentioned that much around here

but if ortiz’s infamously ‘clicking’ wrist keeps him out of boston’s lineup for any significant time, it puts us in a lot better position with regard to the wild card. a win tonight ties us with boston for third best record in the AL and the wild card lead, should the division slip away. i certainly haven’t given up on the central title, but it’s nice to have options.

If you're not on the 40-man roster, you can be traded through August

if you are on the 40-man roster, you have to pass through waivers before you can be traded. In the case of Dunn, I’m pretty sure Arizona put in a waiver claim for Dunn. Arizona is then allotted a certain time period to try to work out a deal for Dunn. The players that Cincinnati is getting for Dunn most likely aren’t on Arizona’s 40-man roster (or, if they are, they’ve passed through waivers without anybody claiming them).

I’m pretty sure what I typed is correct. Feel free to jump in if I fucked up, anyone…

In other news...

The Sox should also trade for Esteban German and the rotting corpse of Mike Sweeney.

Awesome comment on Rosenbloom's blog

In response to Rosenbloom saying, “And besides, I haven’t seen anything from Junior that would make me want to sit Jim Thome.”

I agree that I haven’t see anything out of Griffey that would make me want to sit Jim Thome, but I’ve seen enough of Thome to sit him anyway. When the White Sox beat the Cubs in the World Series this October it won’t be in spite of Jim Thome, but it sure won’t be because of Jim Thome.

I CAN'T STAND IT.

don't they post names there?

In two weeks they will win 7 or 8 in a row and you all will have 10 inch boners.
