that Ozzie is standing by Griffey and will keep throwing him out in center field. Boers and Bernstein were even laughing about it. It’s pretty sad that even the stupid sports radio goons realize that Griffey’s defense sucks, yet Kenny and Ozzie don’t seem to realize it.
Jesse Rogers was also shocked that Kenny showed no interest whatsoever in Paul Byrd. The Red Sox just had to pick up his remaining $2.2 million dollar salary and give up a PTBNL. Rogers did say that he didn’t think that the Sox should be interested in Freddy Garcia. Ozzie commented on both the Red Sox acquisition of Byrd (“Good for them. I would rather face Byrd than Beckett.”) and the Tigers signing of Garcia (“He’s my family but we need a pitcher that can help us now, not next season.”).

There hasn't been anything about Q!s defense this season to suggest he could play an adequate CF
while Swisher has definitely been adequate in CF and plus in the little time he’s spent on the corners.

The only reason it is happening is because Quentin is out tonight with forearm soreness. Once Quentin is healthy, we will still get to see Quentin-Griffey-Dye.

I know that Thome is far more valuable than Griffey to the offense...
but it is pretty damn funny (or not funny) that the Sox refuse to play Thome at 1B but they will throw Griffey in CF in the blink of an eye.

my point is this. i think we can agree both are fragile. but thome = only consistent plus production from left side and has played 28 innings of defense since june 2005. it’s still no defense to throwing griffey in center (or hell, maybe in the outfield at all), but at least the guy has been playing defense and his loss wouldn’t be as brutal.

they were all a bit early for me
the mekons, the three johns etc. I kind of caught the tail end of the Goth movement, but it was all the Manchester bands by the time I was in my teens, leeds had kind of fizzled out. it’s never been a great band city to be honest, but its’s always been a fantastic nightclub town.
