I'll readily admit that my football knowledge trails my baseball acumen by a not-insignificant, yet unquantifiable, amount. As such, I often try to find a player's baseball equivalent.
For instance, in my defense of Rex Grossman to a friend, I compared him to Daniel Cabrera or Oliver Perez; a young player who can show flashes of brilliance, but who will ultimately, it seems, wind up as a below average player. I think it's an apt comparison, though maybe I should find an oft-injured pitcher as well, but my argument fell apart when I was unable to quickly come up with a baseball-doppleganger for Orton. I was thinking Russ Ortiz circa '05 free agency or maybe Josh Fogg entering free agency last year. Both are innings-eating pitchers with positive W-L records, which is about the football equivalent of Orton's "game management" skills and W-L record thanks to a good defense.
Anyway, this was just an excuse to have a little Bears discussion. Got any better comps?
