The 2008 Scouting Report, By The Fans, For The Fans
For the sixth year in a row, I am once again asking for hardcore baseball fans to participate in the annual Scouting Report project, in which you evaluate the fielding characteristics of players on your team. If you have a few minutes, please drop by and evaluate your team:

I participated
Basically the best all around player is Alexei. Has quick bat, good arm, good accuracy, good glove, good release.

Yea, I gave Brian better ratings
I just meant all around Alexei I think is our best.

I missed that one, too
but that’s how good he is – you don’t have to ask.
Sad how many times I clicked “poor”.

By most measures, Alexei is about the worst fielding 2B in the league

If I was a caterpillar and you were a caterpillar I would metamorphosize into a butterfly so that you could see the vast potential of your great beauty. And then you would change, and we would have changed. And it would be beautiful. Change is beautiful.

as mentioned in one of the gamethreads last night
he has a lot of balls go by him that he gets his glove near, especially to his right. He has a good arm, and is good on popups — he covers for JD and Konerko’s lack of range in that area — but a majority of balls he sees are on the ground, and he’s been lackluster in that area.

Seems thats the reason why he can play CF, even if not exceptionally well.

i think that suggests a positioning issue
which is what you’d expect from a guy playing there for the first time and in a new league for the first year.

i thought it was easy to find someone to play second?
seems to me that some of the stuff is unique to 2b. but a lot of it appears to be things that are not position specific. bodes ill for SS.

you don't think he's a net gain at second?

which things are not position specific?
the general boneheadedness? anything else?

not getting groundballs for starters.
there are some things that are different for a 2b than a SS but it’s pretty much the same, just from a different spot. i’ll allow that it takes some adjustment but he’s really not good.

I've thought the same thing
but it could just be that he gets poor jumps, because he has the speed to get to balls, but he just doesn’t get to as many as you’d think..
My other thought was that he didn’t really know how to “get his butt down” to help him get the glove on the ball and/or he doesn’t really know how to dive for a ball with confidence.

what is the formula for determining RZR?
I’ve looked it up on HT, but it seems a bit arbitrary to me.
