Poreda Pushing For Promotion
Aaron Poreda hasn’t overwhelmed hitters in his first full pro season, but he throws hard, he throws strikes, and he’s pitched very well in the last month. That could lead to a big league promotion for the White Sox’ stretch run, but for now Poreda will have to settle for shutting down Southern League hitters, which he’s done quite well lately. Yesterday Poreda shut down a strong Huntsville lineup, going six innings and allowing just one run, which was unearned. Poreda walked two and struck out six, lowering his ERA with Birmingham to 3.17 in 76 2/3 innings with 21 walks and 62 strikeouts. Poreda, 21, began the year in high Class A Winston-Salem, where he had a 3.31 ERA in 73 1/3 innings with a 46-18 K-BB mark. In each of his last five starts, Poreda has not allowed more than three earned runs in one outing.

The title is misleading...
I was expecting the article to say somewhere that Poreda said that he should be in AAA or the majors.

as long as we can expect continued jumps in k/9 (5.6 at W-S, 7.3 at B'ham), bring it on.

As a fifth starter or specialist in bullpen?

Why so serious?

Poreda has surprised me with his peripheral stats
I figured he’d have more control issues. He’s progressed very nicely quite quickly. It’s amazing to me that the Sox seem to have supreme confidence in taking throwers and melding them into pitchers via free agency, trades, waver wire etc — but in the draft they have mostly picked up guys with solid middle of the road fastballs, good control, and solid secondary pitches — guys that are more likely to be good 3rd and 4th starters versus bullpen flamethrowers or top of the rotation guys.
Maybe this will start to change that approach.

wasn't that rather the point of KW insisting on poreda and then dumping the guys in charge of the mcculloch and broadway drafts?
