and it's not even close for alexei. there are at least seven more deserving rookies.

and numbnuts often seem to forget there are these players called “pitchers”, too. this isn’t a race between longoria and ramirez. and, if it were, it would be a freakin’ blowout. i’m not sure why this topic is even discussed.

because alexei has a better batting average.

longoria, gallaraga, smith, chamberlain, aviles, blackburn, ziegler

and throw in johnson.

I'll give you some of them

Gallaraga should win it hands down, but Alexei beats out Longoria and Aviles for position players. Defense counts against Longoria.

lol.

you mean the guy who actually should win the gold glove at third base, if they were to actually give it to the guy who plays the best defense at a position? shakey, let’s watch a little baseball that doesn’t include the white sox, ok?

What about Lowell?

He has a higher zone rating by a fair margin (.756-.731). Crede sits at .728.

by Shakey on Aug 22, 2008 3:04 PM CDT reply actions

if you take BP's system, for example, longoria is worth almost three wins more than alexei in the field at this point.

add that to the one win or so advantage he has over alexei on offense and we’re talking a serious difference. freakin’ blowout. (usual caveats for defensive statistics, of course).

i know. i was simply amplifying.

which is the guy who defense should count against, the guy who is +15 runs or the guy who is -15 runs? absolute chasm.

but he's OUR -15 guy. :-(

by Toonderstrook on Aug 22, 2008 4:21 PM CDT up reply actions

that's true.

doesn’t matter for the ROY, of course. however, 2b shouldn’t be that much different from SS. just like 2b wouldn’t be that much different for a 3b like longoria.

sure

just trying to defend is defense. He surely has shown flashes of brilliance, and turns a solid DP. Wouldn’t think the defense would matter much in the ROY anyway. Chicks dig the longball.

by Shakey on Aug 22, 2008 4:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Not much different for Juan

Can’t be too diferent for most able-bodied major leaguers.

well, i thought juan was not as good at 2b as he was a SS.

may be lots of things going on there so who knows what to take from that. but he certainly didn’t experience a huge dropoff. it looks like alexei may struggle to be even an average SS.

guess i picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue

the writer of the article had a valid point that if ramirez was given the RBI chances that longoria had it would be much closer numbers, probably more RBI’s if he was hitting where Longoria is.

by Shakey on Aug 22, 2008 4:18 PM CDT reply actions

is there ever a right day to stop sniffing glue?

I think you’ve got this sniffing glue thing all wrong

this isn't hard. you live in a port city. and you're a slut. do the math. -larry

Is average is laughable

since his OBP is what? 15 points higher?

I like Alexei but unless he calms down say hello to the new Uribe, same as the old Uribe.
