Vazquez, Sox Not Perfect Enough

Vazquezvanquished_medium

Two Jermaine Dye homeruns and nearly six perfect innings from Javier Vazquez weren't enough to rebound against the playoff-bound Rays.

Right now

Is one of those times we all need to step back and think about what we expected this season to be like before it started. I was thinking third place above the Royals and Tigers.. and here we are a half game back in August.

its been a damn good year, especially looking toward the future- Dank, Q, Alexie, Floyd and Swish are all great assets to our team moving forward.

And please for the love of the gods lets have Thome come back every year until his OPS dries up.

Go Sox or some such shit!

Word

I still think this team makes the playoffs and still has a good chance of winning the division.

Definatly

I still think this team is gonna win the playoffs, plus we got a shot at the Wild Card… I was thinking 4th place this year.

Certain posters come on here just to bitch and moan every time the team is losing and its fucking annoying….

Fuck

I meant make the playoffs… its early and I’ve got a slight hangover

by 815Sox on Aug 24, 2008 10:20 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hell, yes.

I was just thinking today about that poll that we all took early on… about what we would consider a successful season. I believe I answered something like the Sox being competitive up to the end.

Well, goddammit, here we are heading into September, and we are just 1/2 game back. Well, shit… we are exceeding expectations here, ladies and gentlemen.

Let’s get ready for the final push. We’ve got a great chance at the playoffs, and that’s a damn sight better than any of us thought. Savor this. Some way, somehow, we’ve ended up with a good team.

I, for one, am loving it. No matter what happens, this season has been awesome.

If we don’t make the playoffs, will I be disappointed? Absolutely.

In April, did I even think that I would be in position to be disappointed? Hell no.

LETS GO SOX!

After every series loss to a good team, someone is going to make this post...

I can guarantee you that Kenny wouldn’t excuse his own team this much.

His job is to make a WS-caliber team. We’re fans. We can talk like this. From what I thought in April, being above .500 is great.

Thanks again, Fox

Here’s your choice of what to show in Milwaukee… two of the top four teams in the AL going head-to-head, one of which is a team who play all of 90 miles south of the city, or Cardinals vs Braves. Of course you go with Cardinals vs Braves — Cardinals are in the same division as the Brewers so clearly that takes precedence over a good baseball game. I know I’m beating a dead horse here but that exclusive Saturday window that Fox controls fucking sucks. I feel for you west coasters (among others) who probably get that shaft at least once a month.

As far as the game, it’s frustrating in the sense that the Twins are winning out in LA while we’re one game away from being swept at home. In a broader and more relative context, though, I’d file this one into the “shit happens” category. The Sox did a pretty decent job working Kazmir, Vazquez was cruising and then it all falls apart in the 8th. The Sox win that game better than 80% of the time — it just sucks that this time the Rays hit their river flush. That or I’m simplifying things way too much.

Hear you loud and clear

brother. I’m in Virginia, and what did I get? Phillies-Dodgers. Why would anybody in western Virginia care about the Phillies? Oh year, the Nationals play baseball 140 miles from here and the Phillies are in the same division. Presuming that those who would tune in to baseball on Saturday afternoon are baseball fans, why wouldn’t Fox show the best game available?

i don't want to piss on anyone's complaining about not seeing the white sox (fox is stupid).

but i’m fairly certain that a phillies dodgers game would get better ratings than a white sox rays game in western virginia. sorry.

One more observation

The Dye-Thome post-homerun “celebration” at homeplate cracks me up every time I see it. Dye trots around the bases and Thome is always waiting there at home, arm extended, waiting for a nice hand-shake once Dye touches the plate. It fits in perfectly with the “Gentleman Masher” persona.

White Sox bench coach Joey Cora is emerging as the early-line favorite to become the Mariners’ next manager, with interim skipper Jim Riggleman having little chance of getting the job on a full-time basis.

thome = suck.

i mean, he is still in the top 15 in the al in ops and even with his day yesterday he’s ops-ing .895 in the last week.

but no player worth a damn has ever struck out 4 times in a game before, and surely not when three of the four come off a pitcher the caliber of kazmir. except maybe thome during the rest of his career, when he presumably wasn’t declining, including striking out 4 times in 13 games before this season and 5 times twice. or the great adam dunn (4 strikeouts in a game 6 times and 5 k’s once). or a-rod (4 strikeouts in a game 4 times). or david ortiz. or manny ramirez.

Same here.

I tend to post either later at night during the week or from work – weekend are filled (usually) with family stuff. So I may hit the site once or twice just to read some of the hilarity but generally disengage. I’m not sure how many of the posters have the time to watch/coment all the way through so many games.

But for me it’s like watching the financial markets. Now and again it is absolutely necessary to disengage and get some perspective. I very much like the posts leading off this thread (positive, for the most part) and, if not sanguine, grateful for the exceeding of expectations. (Remember last year, when we’d have <100 posts/game at the end of the year because everyone was so Les Miserables?

Much better this year. Glad I 86’ed my “I took the under” sig in May.

Toonder, I sent you an e-mail.

Season over - Sox jinx in place

They already sent out the post season invoices due by the 2nd – included the if you ask for a refund if they don’t make it you may lose your seats option to lock in next year early.

Wonder if other teams have already sent ticket holders invoices?

but he's a capt'n, or is that crap'n
