Redder is Better... Again

I should never say a positive word about the White Sox. When the Sox swept the Twins in June and found themselves with a 6.5 game lead and what appeared to be a favorable schedule ahead of them, I openly wondered if they might be able to put the division away in June. They lost 5 of their next 6. After Gavin Floyd and the offense made light work of the Orioles last week, I said "They almost look like a playoff team. Almost." They haven't won a game since. And they haven't even been close.

So from now on, I promise to never utter another positive word about the White Sox. It's a sure recipe for AL domination.

  • Mark Kotsay has been more of an asset to the Red Sox in the first two games against the White Sox than Ken Griffey Jr has been in a month for the White Sox.
  • Dustin Pedroia has reached base in 10 consecutive trips to the plate against the Sox, gaining himself automatic induction into the SSS Douchenozzle Hall of Fame.

Light recaps will continue throughout the holiday weekend

It's Been A Seesaw Season

And it’s going to simply stay like that. We lose at least 3 games we should’ve won early on in April, we get swept in Toronto and get left for dead for the rest of the season, the Cabrera fiasco of calling pressboxes, the blowup doll ‘controversy’, the afformentioned 6.5 game lead after a Twins sweep, being swept by the Cubs, then sweeping them, and the most recent flip-flopping of 1st place w/ Minnesota. Bottom line is this division will not be decided until all of the White Sox faithful have lost every hair on their head and gone gray prior to that loss of hair.

On a positive note, if that’s possible, Joe Nathan is looking human lately and literally “threw away the game” against Oakland tonight to keep the Sox in 1st by half a game

And the Pedroia thing is embarrassing...

He’s good but he’s not this fucking good. Even old homer Bill Melton was disgusting with the guy always being on base in this series.

I was saying the same thing for each of his at bats last night.

Think maybe the little fucker is a bit too comfortable at the plate?

I said in the other thread that I'd rather have Kotsay than Griffey...

A much better defensive CF’er who would also be a line drive hitter with some speed at the top of the lineup to replace Pierzynski. Kenny added a guy whose offense is probably not even making up for his defensive shortcomings. Well, “defensive awfulness” might be a better phrase to use.

Thankfully, the Twins lost again. But the Sox can’t keep hoping that the Twins lose. They need to build their lead. If the Sox were playing the Twins at home in the last week of the season, it might be a different story.

Funny you bring this up...

Considering I lobbied for Kotsay in late July and you dismissed the notion of acquiring Kotsay.

by Craig Grebeck on Aug 31, 2008 7:37 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

After his past few seasons, it looked like he was done due to injuries...

but it’s not even that I think Kotsay is all that good. It’s just that Griffey sucks so bad in CF and has shown no pop with the Sox.

.265 / .363 / .368 / .731 with the White Sox...

Griffey has a nice OBP but when his SLG is only .005 points higher, I would rather see Swisher in CF and Konerko at 1B everyday. At least Swisher won’t botch as many plays in CF.

A huge thing is that Danks is actually showing some power...

Hopefully, it will carry on up to the higher levels. A Danks-Beckham 1-2 would be sploogetastic.

I just noticed this...

Link:

The Red Sox and White Sox had scouts at Minute Maid Park Wednesday night watching Houston’s Roy Oswalt beat Cincinnati, though it may have been a coincidence. The Astros aren’t interested in trading Oswalt, and the right-hander has a full no-trade clause anyway.

I hope they weren’t there to see Josh Fogg pitch.

Broadway earned the demotion after he surrendered eight earned runs in five innings of work over two outings.

Boone Logan back up...

I guess this move was made so Boone would be eligible for the postseason roster if they make it.

Pitcher Lance Broadway was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte after the game. Left-handed reliever Boone Logan will be recalled and will be eligible for the postseason roster should the Sox make the playoffs. … The Sox will promote several players from Charlotte on Monday. Guillen said he would like a third catcher and a fast runner. That bodes well for left-handed-hitting catcher Cole Armstrong, batting .285, and outfielder Jerry Owens, who has stolen 30 bases and is hitting .280.

Playoff team? I don't know.

They are playing .378 baseball against winning teams. Their records; TB 3-7, Boston 2-4, NY 1/2, Totonto 0-4, Minn 8-7, LAA 3-4. ???

'ranger' says that doesnt matter

as long as you get in.

i think thats hooey.

i think your record vs winning clubs is an excellent indicator of your post-season chances.

if two teams have the same record but one performs better against winning teams than the other...

doesn’t that also mean that team performs worse against losing teams than the other? and wouldn’t that be an indicator as well?

I just don't see today's game going very well...

The White Sox might actually hit Wakefield and score some runs but I don’t like Floyd against a very patient lineup at all.

LOL - STFU

Sorry I missed the game today. A nice turnaround from last night (including Twinkies’ split w/ OAK – who’da thunk that?).

Still in first. Even though we obviously suck and don’t deserve it. Because we suck. I am embarassed to be a White Sox fan in first place like this. A half game up, below .500 against the cream of the league. WTF is that? I’d prefer to have that record against the Mariners, Royals, A’s, and O’s and have the positive record against Rays, BoSox, Angels, and Twinks – it’s like taking an AP class in high school in that you get an extra point for playing the more difficult teams. Thus, a win counts 1.5 games for, a loss only .5 games against. It hurts us to win against terrible teams. That’s why I like our Sept. schedule the best.

This last month is gonna be fun. You young guys are going to start looking like the “after Dem. nominee campaign” picture of Obama – gray hair, gaunt countenance. Like Chiburb. (Including the sandy “V”.)
