Clayton Richard Optioned to Charlotte

I'll link the press release when it's available. The Sox will make a corresponding roster move before Tuesday's game. Though I'm not 100% sure that move will be Jose Contreras. I have a feeling DeWayne Wise will be moved to clear a spot for Jose later this week, and tomorrow's move will be for a reliever.

Well that sucked.

I didn’t watch any of Richard’s starts that carefully other than the first, when I thought he pitched well but was a victim of a tough opponent, park and bad defense.

God damn, please not another year where the Sox are doomed because they can’t find a halfway fucking decent 5th starter.

This is a 6th starter, not a 5th

Big difference,Contreras will be back as the 5th starter . . . with a 4.60 ERA and the given peripherals at this point in the season . . . most of you would have crapped yourselves before the season started if you knew that would happen.

CHICAGO (AP)—The Chicago White Sox optioned left-hander Clayton Richard to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.
Richard gave up 11 hits and nine runs—six earned—in 4 1-3 innings Sunday against Kansas City. In three starts since being called up last month, Richard was 0-2 with a 10.38 ERA while giving up 25 hits in 13 innings.

The White Sox will make a corresponding roster move before beginning a three-game series against Detroit on Tuesday.

i can't really think of anything to write atm

the one thing i wanted to have done for today was pushed back due to statistical complications. i haven’t actually seen the sox play in a little while now and i gave my griffey opinion. there’s a minor league rundown, but aside from brandon allen and aaron poreda continuing to have success, there’s really not much. kent gerst has broken out but has K rate issues. shelby appears constitutionally opposed to taking walks and apparently can’t play up the middle anywhere. jose martinez still doesn’t have much power. besides jim covered all this in a recent post. so…yeah. ideas: i need some.

He has already cleared waivers once so they can freely send him back to AAA. And if the Sox are going to start a Griffey in CF and still have Anderson on the bench, they have no need for Wise right now.

elsewhere, but the Sox actually have some reliever options . . . Derek Rodriguez or Jason Childers should be next in line for a look. With Rodriguez pitching another 3+ solid innings tonight, I think you might see the old man Childers.

Among the candidates at Charlotte for a promotion are Jason Childers, who has a 1.07 ERA in 42 appearances, and Adam Russell, who has a 2.89 ERA in 25 games and had a 5.59 ERA in nine games with the Sox.
That would give the Sox an extra reliever through at least Friday, as Jose Contreras could be activated to start Saturday against Boston.
