Colin
Does Rich Rodriguez know what color helmets his team wears? They seem to be doing nothing but giving the ball to the gold helmets. The good news is, he’ll be able to write off his salary for this game as a gift to charity.

Almost better than baseball on a Saturday night.....
Last night, one of the reasons I was in town this weekend, was the birthday party for my friend, the lead singer’s wife (notice how I am not name-dropping my band friends, Toonder). Party was held on his parents’ sweet-ass property – modest house, completely designed and redone to their liking; gorgeous kitchen, all done by dad himself…
Follow the “Hippies use back door. No exceptions” sign on the gate, to the outdoor, in-ground heated pool, about 40 ft x 12 ft, waterfall in the shallow end, surrounded by plants. Hot tub on side of house, next to the grill, which was on all night, so the guests could make their own kabobs out of an assortment of fresh veggies, meats, fish. Although the scallops were a big hit, I stuck with steak.
Mom and dad own and run a fruit market, so the spread was phenomenal. They provided us with platters covered in fresh fruits and vegetables (not to be confused with the veggies cut for the kabobs, separate table altogether) – blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, full plums, peaches, watermelons, red and green grapes (big, firm delicious ones!)…raw veggies and the assortment of dips ran wild…..
In the beer bucket were Red Stripes, Coronas, Fat Tires, among others that I stopped paying attention to after the first couple…but beer only came when you were sick of the endless flow of White Russians, in honor of the party’s theme – Lebowski.
There were bowling ball and bowling shirt paper plates and decorations. I and a few others wore robes to the occasion….which wound up proving more practical than appropriately stylish, as most of the night was spent in the jacuzzi or the pool, heated to a warm 80 degrees – the perfect temperature for a starry 60-degree evening. Isn’t it lovely getting out of a pool into a cooler temperature? So when you jump back in again with your fresh beer, it’s sooo naiiiiiiice.
A 25-foot homemade screen was set up above the pool, in order to project Lebowski to the crowd. Dozens of balloons surrounded the pool perimeter, and ended up being used as floatation devices; people just bobbed carelessly around the pool, laughing along to the classic film – my personal favorite, as you know by now.
Crowd was small, 20 or so; and all people I enjoy, which makes a big difference. Blake Lewis, Colin’s favorite musician, hung out for a few hours, went swimming, signed some tits. (Just kidding on the signing the tits part – but I have asked him to before, and told him he sucked in the same breath). (Blake Lewis side note – before I met him through these friends, I would not have been able to pick the guy out in a crowd, didn’t even know who the hell he was…big among 12 year-olds, he tells me).
Later in the night, a cheese platter appeared. And I don’t mean like cheese you’ll find at your local grocer. I’m talking about an international spread here…cheeses I cannot even identify by name. I finished my evening devouring crackers and cheese – oftentimes putting 2 or 3 types of cheese into one cracker sandwich. It was purely heavenly.
It’s hard to think of a better way to spend a night. I’m sure my fellow SSS Lebowski enthusiasts would appreciate this evening well-spent, well-fed, and well-drunk in an atmosphere the Dude would enjoy.
