White Sox Dome Woes Explained
With yet another loss in the rollerdome, the Sox fell to 4-15 this season on the carpet. The reason is surprisingly uncomplicated.
The Sox are a woeful 24-for-132 with men in scoring position in domes this season, and a comically bad 5-for-55 with 2 outs/RISP. Even worse, the Sox last two 2 out/RISP hits, the Sox only hits with RISP this series, have failed to plate a runner.

That's crazy...
Lamentably this will fuel the “fragile Sox team of choke artists” theory. The season has come down to MN being more “clutch” than the Sox which is really annoying. Argh.
For the record, I don’t think they are fragile. I think they are a below average hitting team (in terms of average and OBP), and that the “unclutchness” is an artifact of that plus mostly just bad luck. Anything can happen in 200 ABs.
For right now, any lineup with Uribe, Wise, and the ghost of Jermaine Dye is not one primed for a huge offensive outburst. I can’t believe Swisher has been so bad so long that he’s benched in favor of Dewayne Wise. I wouldn’t have done that, but it’s an understandable move.
Anyway, Buehrle pitched his guts out tonight — I was impressed.
by hitlesswonder on Sep 25, 2008 12:02 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Damn right he did
He had nothing but a fastball for the first several innings — no command of the changeup, no command of the curveball. Three runs should’ve been been…
that brings us to the offense. Of all the games in this streak of bad, this has to rank right up there as the worst. Blackburn had nothing tonight, not a damned thing. He was pitching over the heart of the plate, hanging that fucking slider, (seemingly) falling behind in the count, and yet… two runs over five. God damn. I’ve tried to stick with my expectations, and it’s still possible to win tomorrow and put the Twins in a helluva predicament for this weekend, but it was tough to not get caught up in the moment tonight.
The helpless feeling of being a sports fan sure does suck, ehh?
As for tomorrow… the General certainly can’t (and shouldn’t) sit, but I think it’s time to get Swisher back in there. I’d put him in for Konerko, who isn’t looking good at the plate. That or get Dye out of the lineup.
Go get ’em, Gavin, you big ballsy motherfucker.

Slowey is going to pack these sorry bunch of losers’ shit.
Did anyone else notice the camera shot of the entire Sox bench sitting on their asses in the 9th inning with a runner on base? Way to cheer on your team. This whole Twins / Piranha bullshit was perpetuated by Ozzie, Hawk and D.J., and the rest of the organization. The Sox go to the Twinkiedome and expect to lose and therefore they do. These guys are bunch of fucking ball-less losers.
The Sox 3-4-5 in the lineup has gone 3 for 22 these first two games. Players must have to try to suck that bad.

One reason why people on this site find you annoying of many:
Slowey is going to pack these sorry bunch of losers’ shit.
You are not content to just complain about the bad things the Sox have already done (of which there is plenty to complain about), which is every fan’s right and part of being a fan.
You have to always take it that one step further and complain about things that have not yet come to be. That is where you cross the line into annoying territory, because most fans I know, they cheer their team on, even when it looks grim.
In football terms: It’s every fan’s right to play Monday Morning Quarterback, but your complaining about Sunday’s game on a Saturday.
White Sox, that’s baseball.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what is going on in this series...
The Twins obviously want it more and the Sox are choking like a crack whore trying to make ten bucks.
I expected the offense to score three runs tonight and they couldn’t even manage that. Embarrassing.
Where’s Larry to berate all the nervous Sox fans who expected this? I thought it was next to impossible for the Sox to blow a 2.5 game lead?

Why is it that when a team beats the White Sox it's because THEY WANT IT MORE?
We lost 3-2. If Gomez mistimes his jump there’s a decent chance we at least go to extras. It’s baseball, there’s a shit-ton of variables, almost none of which involve a team tanking intentionally in September.

I will wonder why the sorry sack of shit offense couldn’t put up more than two runs in nine innings when they were facing the Twins second worst starter who has been getting hit hard lately. Blackburn was throwing junk over the plate tonight.
I know we are used to the geriatric outfield of Griffey and Dye running in concrete boots but other teams actually have athletic outfielders who can make non-routine plays.

"want it more'
Yeah, that’s all it takes. The Sox and the Twins, when healthy, have about the same talent level. The Sox are missing an AL MVP candidate at the same time Dye is slumping, Swisher is slumping, and Uribe has to be on the field. The offense sucks right now. But no matter how much Dewayne Wise wants it, and you can bet he wanted it bad, he couldn’t increase the odds of himself getting a hit against Nathan. The Twins are better than the Sox right now, especially in the dome.

Being a baseball fan doesn’t to be working out well. Feeling that the Sox organization has personally betrayed you this season cannot be healthy. Not making the playoffs will/would be a failure at this point. But the season as whole certainly wasn’t. But even if it was…well, you can spend your time how you want, but I think you should find something that will make you happy. In that vein I’d like to suggest some books I liked for reading to kids:

But if the Sox don’t win the division….
how truly difficult will it be for you to sit back and reflect positively on this season?
We have held 1st place all year (for the most part) and in the last 2 months of the season, we lost extremely key players and are still competing into the very last series of the season.
EVERYONE here will be sad and disappointed and bummed to hideous degrees if the Sox do not win the division.
But at least the rest of us will probably still be able to see the bigger picture – this has been an outstanding season to watch. We have seen fucking miracles happen this season.

In fact, I think I said, “EVERYONE here will be sad and disappointed and bummed to hideous degrees if the Sox do not win the division.”
But still – it doesn’t matter. I will look at this season as a winning one, relative to what was expected and relative to what happened to last season.
We lost steam at the very end of the season – but that doesn’t negate the super mega-fun months of baseball that came before.
If you only measure success in terms of rings, then you’ve got a long time to wait for another successful season, most likely.
I hear the Twins are going to be good in the upcoming years, though…..maybe time to formally swap your colors?

one idea is that these dome teams (generally) have outfielders with good arms
and of course the turf often makes a ball get to the outfielder quicker than it would on grass and thus an already slow team becomes “slower” and less likely to score from second on a single etc. i’m sure that’s not all of it (is there ever one factor?) but it’s seems like a plausible contributor.
i lack the discipline to want it more.

'specially considering the clubs at hand.
And the fact that speed is our major deterrent, and the major advantage for the Twins.
This is not wholly surprising. They have 6 guys who can steal a base, no problem. And we have a catcher who can’t throw a guy out at 2nd to save his life.
Things like this tend to add up.

Its not like we got blown out again
If you look at the box score, same # of hits, 1 more walk given up by us but 3 more strikeouts made by the Twins.
They just had a couple of bounces go their way, and some good outfield defense.
The bottom line is the bats have to come alive tomorrow. JD needs to snap out of it – with him slumping hard, we’ve effectively lost our two best hitters (him + Q).
I’d like to see Swisher in for PK tomorrow.

And...by the way...
if you look at my history, you’ll know I’ve been talking about this phenomenon for a couple years now….I didn’t adopt this stance just now. I have nothing personal against any individual in the sox organization, including players. This is a pychological demon poorly handled by everyone involved, and it’s like an infection never tended to. It grows and then kills.

I can't help it.
It is a commentary on my somewhat obsessive nature, yes, but it doesn’t take away from how much I believe in what I’m saying.

And how badly I want the Sox to win.

Very similar.

Basically, the Sox are re-traumatized
with every misfortune vs. the Twins. They are not encouraged to talk about what is truly happening in their hearts and minds about this thing, so they continue to function with abnormally heightened alarm systems, as it were, because there is no intervention of any sort to deal with all the irrational, distorted fucked up ways of thinking and being they’ve developed over time with this Twins thing. It manifests itself in a lot of emotional bluntedness that masks super high anxiety internally…you get poor performance with this combination, and there’s no reason to think anything will change because no one acknowledges what is happening.

By the way....
they are trying….just not trying right.

So, everything
is perceived as dangerous….all cues are misinterpreted as threatening….it really stunts creativity, grace, natural expression.

What are the chances hr drops Dye in the order
if he won’t at least sit him? I have given up the season is over.

Positive Mojo
Can we get some good Karma here? As AJ said, a win tonight will erase the past two games. My Sox flag is still hanging outside the house. The Sox are due for a good outing and some productive hitting…

Big crowds at the Cell this weekend
I’ll be there Saturday, heckling Victor Martinez. I just hope they play that classical music montage during the post game fireworks!
