you guys were discussing Pitchfork the other day… I’m not the biggest fan of them, either, but I read them (generally) because they review a good amount of the music I’m into, so it works out. Anyways… are there any other quality ‘catch-all’ music blogs/sites out there that should be must reads? That part of my daily read-through is kind of lacking, and I’d like to have an equivalent to say, 538.com for political stuff.

but critical commentary seems to be mostly lacking in music blogs these days. i find them completely uninteresting because they don’t write in a compelling fashion. i’ve given a lot of thought to this and at one point considered seeing if i could launch an SBN blog with a bunch of collaborators.

One of my friends and I have considered the same
although I don’t think my knowledge of music (in general — I think I can analyze specific albums but my depth is a weak spot and as such comparisons to other albums would be lacking) is anywhere near where it would need to be to write and contribute to a quality blog.
One of my problems is the ‘vagueness’ of the rating system. Hell, even if it wasn’t vague, I don’t think I’m a fan of rating an album. Either I really like it or I don’t like it or it’s somewhere in the middle. I may expand later (or at another time) but unfortunately I have work starting in a short time (and I’m not sure my ‘rant’ is worth anyone’s time, either).
I’ll have to give AV Club a look, Jim.
I don't like numerical/star ratings either
the words should be a lot more valuable than that. usually doesn’t seem to be the case though.
re: depth of knowledge —> music is so friggin vast that any kind of wealth of knowledge requires you to be older than 22 to have a lot of it in your belt unless your obsession gets you known throughout the school for being strange. i wouldn’t worry about it if you’ve actually got something interesting to say.

I just smoked the Twins in a Floyd vs. Slowey matchup in “MLB ’08 The Show” on PS3.
Floyd had a complete game in which he only gave up 1 run on 5 hits. Konerko and Uribe homered to lead the Sox to an 8-1 victory.
