Jon Garland is a Team Player, Pussy -- Los Angeles Times
What once looked like an extremely difficult decision probably won't cause Manager Mike Scioscia to even flinch, not after veteran right-hander Jon Garland all but talked himself out of the Angels playoff rotation today.
"If it was my decision, I wouldn't be a starter, not with what I've seen from Ervin Santana, John Lackey, Joe Saunders and Jered Weaver," Garland said before tonight's game against Seattle.
"Whatever Mike wants me to do, I will do. I'm not going to complain. I'll do whatever he wants me to do, the best that I can."

Enjoy losing to the Red Sox yet again lousy Californians
"I’m gonna rise up, gonna kick a little ass. Gonna kick some ass in the USA. Gonna climb a mountain, gonna sew a flag, gonna fly on an eagle. I’m gonna kick some butt, gonna drive a big truck. I’m gonna rule this world. I’m gonna kick some ass. I’m gonna rise up, gonna kick a little ass. Rock, flag, and eagle!"

Holy shit. Absolutely amazing.
Cabrera v. Garland. Looks like Jon maybe did belong on our team this year after all.

i suspect he's gay.
of course, why this would have been “an extremely difficult decision” is beyond me. let’s see, go with the four guys with WHIPs under 1.3 for the season and who haven’t imploded in the second half or replace one of those….what’s the word i’m looking for? oh, yes. good pitchers with jon garland.
i lack the discipline to want it more.

Yeah, I want cogent pitching staff analysis from my $10M/year pitcher.
I’m not looking for color commentary from a potential playoff starter, I want someone who says “Give me the damn ball”, even if he does not “deserve” it.
Jon has playoff experience. And unlike many of the Angels’ staff the past few years, has actually won in the playoffs. I have no idea what his splits look like against the Red Sox, but IIRC lefties aren’t treated kindly in Fenway.
Maybe all the numbers line up and you are correct – but I’ll take the Santana machismo any day.
