Top ten Sox moments this year so far
I've put these together as my best memories so far of the season and they are in no particular order of preference.
- The opening game against Cleveland; OK so we lost 10 - 8 but it was a great game and showed a good spirited fightback.
- Beating up Detroit 13 -2 in the big Sunday night game. Pierzynski getting intentionally walked only for Quentin to hit a bases clearing triple was the highlight.
- Jim Thome hitting a massive HR against Tampa. I would have like to have seen how far that would have gone at the home ground.
- Brian Anderson's leaping catch against Seattle.
- Alexei Ramirez executing the fake bunt perfectly against Cleveland.
- Quentin's walk off against John Lackey to beat the Angels.
- Vin Scully doing the commentary when we played the Dodgers.
- Gavin Floyd getting his head shaved and not turning into a pumpkin.
- Swisher hitting home runs from both sides including a Grand Slam against Cleveland.
- Ken Harrleson nearly having a coronary as we beat Tampa.
be nice if we can have a few more like this.
regards

Ha, after reading the first one, I thought you were implying Cleveland was in Oklahoma. Punctuation, dear hoodie.
My addition – a recent recollection because it is 6:20 and I am pre-coffee…..
back-to-back-to-back-to-back.
We’ve had some good laffers this season, and all because we can hit singles like no other.
Second runner-up: Griffey’s first at-bat in a Sox uni – in fact, I think he had 2 rbi’s and a run that game…. (In Furby’s words: “woot! rbi single!
big jimmy rumbling tumbling home….i love it”)
That was fun, even if it’s been relatively downhill from there. (Paulie’s homer soon after this acquisition was also pleasant).
Thanks for posting a positive, enjoyable fanpost, hoods. It’s easy to forget such lovely times when we are neck-deep in a division race against America’s team, without God on our side.

HA! You are correct.
And yes, I am actually very close to being legally blind (thanks, Dad’s genes!). And I have a permanent blind spot in my left eye since my bout with a parasite in 2003.
So I am not surprised at all. My boyfriend calls me “eagle eye.”
Sorry hoodie! regards!

Not particularly. Hopefully quick-like. This is the time of the season, you know?

Omissions
One that has to be in the list:
→ JD taking porn-star turned closer Todd Jones deep in the 9th at Detroit to begin the quick end of Detroit being a threat in the Central
I would also argue that the closest to death a Sox game has brought Hawk this year was when we came back on the Rangers, capped late by a 3 run Q homer…

I enjoyed that immensely for Schadenfreude reasons -
he was immediately demoted from closer status and cried his eyes out. BWAHAHAHAHA!
I also liked that the same (though not the same personal reaction) happened when we torched Borowski in his closer’s role a week or two earlier. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Plus, weren’t there a couple of great rallies at KC in the 8th and 9th? Did Q go yard in the 8th in one of them, a 3 run bomb? I loved that.
Good first fanpost, hoodie. We may have to keep you.

Jerry Owens going down with injury was pretty great. Even when we didn’t know what we had in Q, I think we were all just happy Jerry wouldn’t be making the team.
I have to agree with Hoodie, after that first game, even though we lost on some actual questionable calls (not just Hawk’s opinion) you could tell we had a greatly improved team. It was the first time I felt good about 2008.
For me 2007 was like going on a long road trip and getting lost in the backwoods of Arkansas and then that game was like stumbling on to the highway and seeing a big sign that says 90 wins to playoffs, this way. You know you have a long way to go and the wheels could still fall off, but at least we were back on the road.

re: Thome's homer
It would have gone something like 441 ft if it continued unimpeded

i liked it because it gave me an excuse to have mlb.tv up at work
our product hangs from / near the catwalk at the impact point and i had the game on right after the home run. company president walks by, sees the game on one of my monitors and asks what i’m up to.
“just keeping an eye on the gear, boss!” and proceed to rewind and show the dinger. crisis: averted.

Another near Hawk aneurysm
was June 14th against the Rockies. Quentin was seemingly thrown out of the game after slamming his bat down, which caused Hawk to yell out PURE BULL! After commercial break we find out Q was still in the game.

Also don't forget
That was the game that prompted Cheat to hide the threads, leading Wiz to commit himself to an asylum, allowing your meteoric rise to Associate Editor status.

Hawk's near death experiences after game winning HRs
First one when Q! hit that bomb against the Rangers against the jagoff who hit him, and he showed him up after reaching home plate. Also, when Swisher hit the walk-off in extra innings against Detroit I thought Hawk exploded into little bits and pieces.

i just realized that no one mentioned...
when coop pulled his hammy in the dugout! remember how he got all pissed off and hurt himself? how embarrassing must that have been? that was hilarious. all the players watching the replay with the cameraman. swish doing his impression of it.
that’s about as hard as i’ve ever laughed while watching a baseball game.
