Official Press Release...

“White Sox purchase contract of OF Jason Bourgeois from Triple-A Charlotte
Designate Charlie Haeger for assignment”

CHICAGO — Prior to tonight’s game vs. Los Angeles, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of infielder/outfielder Jason Bourgeois from Triple-A Charlotte and designated right-handed pitcher Charlie Haeger for assignment.

Bourgeois (pronounced “Boo-geois”) batted .286 (146-510) with nine home runs, 48 RBI, 83 runs scored and 30 stolen bases in 127 games with Charlotte this season. The 5-foot-9, 190-pounder played in 109 games in the outfield and 19 at second base.

Bourgeois, 26, was signed by the White Sox as a free agent on December 19, 2006. He has no major-league experience and will wear uniform No. 38.

Haeger, 24, was 10-13 with a 4.45 ERA (88 ER/178.0 IP) and 117 strikeouts in 28 games (25 starts) with the Knights in 2008.

The White Sox active roster is at 35 players, and the 40-man roster remains at 40.

Sonova bitch.

I liked Haeger, possibly due to his getting fluffed by Neyer, whom I dislike. I hope this doesn’t come back to bite the Sox in the ass a few years from now.

And even if it does, then oh well, I suppose.

unfortunately, he showed no growth and arguably regressed in his three seasons at AAA.

we can cite all the stuff about how he’s young and knucklers take longer to develop and blah blah blah. but he’s out of options, so he can’t be warehoused for another year, and there are other guys in the organization who look to be able to contribute as much or more than haeger at the major league level next year.

My liking him knows has statistical qualifications

If he isn’t progressing, then I agree that this is little to no point in keeping him on the payroll.

I wouldn’t be disappointed if he ended up with the Nationals or Pirates. If he goes to the bastard Red Sux, Twinkies, Angels, or Yankees, I will be burning down the entire “Gay” Area, MM style.

So anyone think the Red Sox will try to pick him up?

They could have Charlie Zink and Charie Haeger in the minors.

True...

The Nationals are probably drooling at the chance to nab him.

Emilio Bonifacio = stud...

You wouldn’t rather have him than Jon Rauch?

Oh, I knew this was coming.

Haeger might develop into a decent major-league starter some day, but “some day” doesn’t really cut it right now.

My liking of Haeger is more based on a soft spot for knuckleballers than anything else.

I don’t know what Bourgeois can really do at the major-league level. I’m thinking Pablo Ozuna.
