And apparently...

Guillen has no problem breaking Griffey.

And if Clayton can’t get this lineup out, he can’t get any lineup out.

These are the kind

of games that are gut check time. I hate to be so damn un-sabermetric-like, but I think it’s an equal dose of talent and “nuttingup.”

You want to see good fundamentals?

Get players who are good at fundamentals. The Sox are a team that waits for the three-run homer. As they say, it is what it is.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Sep 9, 2008 7:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Unfortunately...

the fact that it makes sense doesn’t make watching Konerko ground into a double play with the bases loaded any easier. I get why it’s annoying to watch.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Sep 9, 2008 7:50 PM CDT up reply actions

hitters with good fundamentals don't gidp?

derrik lee, magglio, jeter, michael young, mauer, morneau, rios all in top 20 in mlb. no white sox in top 30.

"i'd like to think of me returning when i can to the greatest little boozer and to sally maclennane."

by Toonderstrook on Sep 9, 2008 7:53 PM CDT up reply actions

It's nice...

when you have lots of baserunners on in front of you. It’s easy to not hit into double plays when you’ve got Cabrera (.329 OBP) and Pierzynski (.321 OBP) at the top of the order. Hitting into lots of double plays isn’t necessarily a bad sign.

But that’s beside the point – nothing anyone does is going to make Pierzynski into a good bunter, or give Konerko more foot speed. Complaining about what a player can’t do is what bad organizations do.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Sep 9, 2008 7:57 PM CDT up reply actions

i definitely agree. i just didn't understand equating konerko hitting into a dp as a sign of bad fundamentals.

"i'd like to think of me returning when i can to the greatest little boozer and to sally maclennane."

by Toonderstrook on Sep 9, 2008 7:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Because...

he didn’t hit the ball to the right side to stay out of the double play. Some hitters are adept at staying out of double plays. Paul Konerko is not one of them.

by The Jerry Royster Experience on Sep 9, 2008 8:01 PM CDT up reply actions

he needs to hit the ball to mid-outfield depth to guarantee no double play.

"i'd like to think of me returning when i can to the greatest little boozer and to sally maclennane."
