Man Down! Gamethread #2
In my extremely premature, unqualified opinion, Paul Konerko appears to be done for the year (and most of next) with a knee injury, presumably a blown ACL.
Oh and there's a baseball game going on, which the Sox are losing, because, you know, the opposing team brought it's dome mojo and loonies and toonies with them.

You must mean "balls in double-play"
Of course, I do miss the days when the Sox would at least have a baserunner and someone making contact at the plate. Good times.

The ACL is a 6-9 month injury now
it used to be a year, but Milton Bradley blew his out in the final week of the season last year and ended up back by opening day.
Of course, I’ll assume that Konerko, who does nothing fast, will have a slower recovery — assuming it was indeed his ACL
AIM: SouthSideCheat
from what he was grabbing at and the look of it, it wouldn't surprise me if the mcl or lcl wasn't involved, too.
which would complicate things a bit more.
wait for the mri.
i’m quite suspicious considering it looked to me like he injured it in the first and then injured it worse on the play in the field. if we want to talk degrees, he may have had a first degree in the first inning. but he must have pushed it to a second or third degree, minimum, with the second trauma. his reaction was not consistent with a “minor” sprain, i.e. first degree.
What does the futures market say?
I’ll go with the wisdom of crowds.
"I suck... the Sox don’t." reply actions 25 recs

Initially I was pretty sure it was minor
My dad called immediately after, while he was still on the ground… I told him Pauly “just scared himself” with the pain, because you don’t see guys with big knee injuries moving it around like he was. They know it’s done because it fcukin hurts, and they don’t move it.
But the way he walked off, refusing to put any weight on it, I changed my mind to full freak out mode.
AIM: SouthSideCheat
some guys play almost entire football games with torn acl's, no?

by Toonderstrook on Sep 9, 2008 9:26 PM CDT up reply actions
well, mcl rarely requires surgey, unlike the acl. so that's good.
i’d say two to three weeks, if we’re handicapping.
nah
I think the initial injury was occured during cross country. I hyperextended it such that I didn’t finish a race. Like paulie I was helped off the course and thought I was done… Unlike paulie I was running 2-3 days later.
But I really messed it up cycling, I think. which doesn’t really make sense, but it happened. I popped something in my knee and got some swelling as an uninsured post-collegiate. So I never did anything about it.
Now it locks up on me all the time.
AIM: SouthSideCheat
if you're insured now, or when you do get adequate insurance, you should get it scoped.
best to do these things while you’re still young.
Oh I know
I just hate doctors.. I’ve got a shoulder that should be cleaned up as well. Not gonna happen.
AIM: SouthSideCheat
yeah, i've got a shoulder thing, too. that's one you don't want to get done unless you have to.
but the knee takes about a half hour and is nothing these days.
