ESPN Chat: Baseball America's John Manuel on White Sox 2B

Vik (Chicago): Who would you play at 2B for the Whitesox? Getz, Lillibridge or Nix? Any of them long-term starters?
John Manuel: Best spring training wins. Getz might be the best fit in terms of bringing a different look to the lineup as an LH bat with some speed; that team seems very righthanded to me. Nix is a good guy to try but I don't have confidence that he will hit. Lillibridge brings more value if he's playing SS but to me he, like Getz, is more of an extra guy. They're all place-holders for Gordon Beckham, who will rake in pro ball, I'm a Beckham fan.

2b battle

This is actually 1 battle I am looking forward to seeing. There is a real chance that a real mlb 2b will emerge and with Beckham due to arrive the Sox may have some nice flexibility next year.

IMHO, when Beckham arrives, he will be playing SS

I haven’t seen the guy play or paid much attention to what the scouting reports say, but I’m going to go ahead and postulate that Beckham sticks at SS.

That means that when Beckham makes it to Chicago, Chelexi will either move back to 2B, or, if one of the Getz-Nix-Lilli three headed monster sticks, out to CF.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

You are right. But larry is actually a prick too.

Good call.

I would rather douse a newspaper in gasoline, wrap it around my penis and light it on fire then relive that experience

I always thought that would be good for Alexei

less range needed, and has a cannon of an arm, long flop radius, largest chance of sucktitude there
