Mark Cuban whines about the Cubs bidding
My sense of the entire situation was that whoever the new owner of the Cubs would be, it was in the Sox best interest for things to stay business as usual. Published TV ratings and other published measures showed that the Cubs were more popular than the Sox, yet before I even started looking at the Cubs, I knew from my discussions with people in the NBA that the Cubs and Sox were treated as equals in their business dealings. That was great for the Sox, not so good for the Cubs. Im guessing the people in the Sox organization knew, that if I bought the team, particularly at the price point that was being suggested in the papers, there was no way I would just accept parity in future business dealings. I was going to have to try to negotiate the very best deals possible for the Cubs, even if it was at the expense of the White Sox.

I don't understand what Cuban is talking about here
the only place where Sox/Cubs are treated as financial equals is in there stake in CSN, and that’s an even 4-way split with the Bulls and Hawks as well. Is he trying to argue that he should have gotten a larger chunk of CSN in the sale as well?

could be referring to how mlb deals with the chicago franchises.
but 1) i don’t see how that would change, since mlb generally strives to treat all franchises the same and 2) the franchises’ business dealings with mlb really shouldn’t be that conflicting, at least not so much that they’d be the subject of a blog post such as this. i’m going with “guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about” because this makes little sense: I knew from my discussions with people in the NBA that the Cubs and Sox were treated as equals in their business dealings.

Isn't the NBA a Communistic entity, also?
He ought to know that MLB is the same. I think he’s waving his unit around, just like he did when dealing with the issue that got him accused of insider trading.

What business dealings?
Both teams have different sponsors, different marketing strategies, etc etc. What could they have in common?

Vendors (beer/hot dogs, etc.)? Ad space? Accountants and attorneys? Rent?

I'm being serious here
Is it that much of a competition to hire marketing agencies, accounting firms, lawyers in Chicago?

I really don't know, and I was being serious.
Not sure how you leverage Cubs’ popularity vs. Sox except in ad buying.

Cuban was never going to be allowed to buy the Cubs
Everyone knew from the get-go that the other MLB owners didn’t want the trouble-making Mark Cuban in their small club.
I have no idea what matter(s) he thinks the Cubs and Sox are being treated as equals on when they should not.

and how could a creative seller gotten around that?
by filing for bankruptcy and ramming a sale through that way. but, of course, the owner of a major league ball club would never go into bankruptcy…

Bankruptcy or not
The sale of a club would require approval from the other owners.

i wouldn't bet on that.
one of the lovely things about bankruptcy is that you can tell just about everyone that they can go fuck themselves.

Cuban's fall from grace is one of the best schudenfreude stories of the year IMO
Insider trading, the Mavs EPIC FAIL and then the more epic fail of the Jason Kidd trade this year…and now he can’t buy the Cubs.
Cry my a river cuban.
