Jenks whines about being called a tubbo.
Jenks is not a happy man, and it has nothing to do with another offseason beginning with trade rumors. Instead, during a weekend chat with MLB.com, Jenks took umbrage with the White Sox once again calling out his conditioning at the end of the 2009 season.

Bobby Jenks is in line for an 8 million dollar payday and can barely read
He already had one brush with playing his way out of baseball, you’d think he would have learned his lesson.

Technically it was drinking his way out of baseball.
I’m pretty sure he still drinks, but he’s not setting his arms on fire anymore, so that is an improvement.

Jenks has been the same since he got here...
in 2005 it was cool when ozzie motioned to the pen to bring in the fat guy….. now that he is about to be traded the organization wants people to think poorly of him as he leaves like they try to do with every player that leaves since Williams took over. its fucking annoying. I am sick of Williams and Ozzie. Yes i know williams didn’t say anything about Jenks yet… but it will come.
Not that i disagree with what is said——-but EVERY time a player is leaving the organization it is something.

Ordonez? Thomas? Lee?
Swisher? Cabrera? Garland? Garcia?
It happens way too much. first off it hurts their value… second off just do your job and get rid of them and act professionally. Its fucking stupid both business wise and image wise.

If they called him fat right from the start
Wouldn’t that suggest they’ve always considered it a problem, so why would it matter if they say something later? It’s not like other baseball people don’t know how big Bobby Jenks is.
Anyone in baseball already knows about these obvious problems, it’s not like some team is thinking.. I sure would like Bobby Jenks to close for me, then they read in the newspaper that Kenny Williams said Bobby Jenks is fat and they change their mind. No.. they already knew he was a fatass b/c he’s been in the league for 4 years now and he’s been fat since he got here.
You can say it’s unprofessional, but it’s not hurting their trade value, KW & Ozzie aren’t saying anything that other GM’s and managers don’t already know.
There are plenty of guys who have left on good terms, and there are plenty of guys who have left other teams on bad terms. You just happen to follow the White Sox, dislike KW and Ozzie Guillen and therefore notice it more when our own guys leave on bad terms because you already have a problem with them to begin with.

Lovie Smith on Cedric Benson...
“Cedric, we drafted him high and he’s a good football player,” he said. “We have quite a few of our players who were here playing good football (elsewhere) right now, including him.”
The press battered Benson while he was in Chicago and rightly so. That’s their job and they do it well. When the organization (management) takes shots through the media, it just makes the organization look petty.
Ozzie likes to make headlines when he should be having these conversations one on one behind closed doors. It’s one thing to have the media offer their opinions on players but it’s different when they can offer quotes from the team. Calling Vazquez a loser and Swisher a crybaby didn’t help their trade value. Calling Jenks lazy isn’t going to help his either. I don’t really care if other organizations do the same thing, I’d like to see us take the high road once in a while.

I never said it didn't make them look petty or unprofessional.
I actually said you could say it does make them look unprofessional.
His trade value isn’t changing though. We got Tyler Flowers for Vazquez so apparently the Braves GM evaluated the guy on his own instead of worrying about what was said on the radio. Nick Swisher was garbage last year and his contract no longer looked cheap in this market. Saying he was a bad clubhouse guy didn’t hurt his trade value, his play did.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t take the highroad, but it isn’t hurting their guys trade value. Their play did. If you really think an MLB scout or GM isn’t going to do their own homework, and just listens to what Ozzie Guillen says about a guy he doesn’t like, you’re an idiot.
by Grinder in Training on Oct 13, 2009 10:02 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Vazquez was the same pitcher in 08 for us as he's always been.
Swisher was asked to play cf and bat leadoff for us which the smart GM’s would take into consideration along with his BABIP for the year. By trashing both of them, they became a lot less valuable on our own damn team and had to be dealt. If you think we got fair value for Swisher, God bless you. We did a little better with Vazquez but after the first year I’d say Atlanta got the best of us too. If he’s put on the market this year, watch what he brings back.
I’m an idiot but you’re damn right, I believe scouts and other GM’s do pay attention to what their own clubs say about them. A player’s makeup and clubhouse presence can and do affect trade and free agent value. As far as Jenks goes, I doubt there are any GM’s that really care about his body type as long as he’s throwing in the upper 90’s and striking people out. They might back off a little though if they have reason to question his commitment.

Do you just not have any respect for baseball management?
You really don’t think the Yankees wouldn’t know what his clubhouse antics were like if Ozzie didn’t say anything? As if baseball teams don’t talk to each other, or notice what’s going on with other clubs? As if players don’t all talk, and managers all know each other.
Do you think the Yankees or any other team didn’t see that Swisher didn’t get along with his team and wore out his welcome? As if general managers didn’t know about his low BABIP, or him playing out of position.
God Bless you, if you think people in baseball are so ignorant that they would need any quotes from the media to make their decisions on things like this. These are multi-million dollar decisions. What Ozzie Guillen says about a guy is not going to have an effect on what they do.
We got rid of Nick Swisher b/c we didn’t want him around, if that’s the best deal we could have got, then that’s fair value at the time. No one offered less because Ozzie didn’t get along with him. They offered less b/c he became overpaid in a recession, played like shit and sulked like a baby over playtime. Other teams aren’t going to make their decisions based on what Ozzie Guillen said in the press.
I like how people just assume we should have got more for Nick Swisher, when guys like Bobby Abreu were being signed for only 5 million dollars in the same offseason. As if Kenny saw a bunch of good offers and decided… ya know those sound good, but I sure would like to put Wilson Betimet in a White Sox uniform.
People in baseball surely already know anything there is to know about Bobby’s commitment. If you think a quote in the press is going to change their opinion on him god help you.

I just find it amazing how such wonderful clubhouse leaders like Swish and OC changed in 1 year with us.
Seems all the information available at that time was positive. Where do you suppose all of this negative press came from? Why hasn’t it followed them to New York, Oakland and Minnesota?
You have your opinion and I have mine.

Or....
Maybe getting benched and traded to a big market to only be a role player (Swisher) or not getting the money you expect in free agency (OCab) is a humbling experience..
See Padilla with the Dodgers if you want a non-White Sox example of a guy who fit in one club house and not another.
And OCab had a history of problems with other players and the media. It’s not Kenny Williams fault that he got in a fight with Jermaine Dye. He created a negative reputation all on his own, and paid for it financially. Nothing KW or Ozzie can do to stop the guy from calling the press box to have an error call changed. Edgar Renteria had problems with him too that were very public. I suppose Ozzie should have done something about that too?
There’s a reason the guy doesn’t stick with one team and that we got him for just Jon Garland even though OCab was going to be a type A FA and Garland wasn’t.
Sure Ozzie and KW don’t have class and it’s not good for their reputations. But it isn’t hurting their baseball operations in any way which is my only point.

I always thought the Media's "job" was to be objective
But naturally that will never, ever be the case. Huzzah! Lets praise the lack of objectivity then! Hurray for Fox News, MSNBC, and ESPN, praise be to the Yankees and Red Sox.

I like some of the stuff he does…. just wish he would hold his manager more accountable for his shitty work.

Like LaRussa, eh, Ken?
You rag on Ozzie incessantly to the point that when you actually HAVE proper rationale it is obscured by the lack of objectivity in crediting him with the things he does well.
Quit the 100% hating, bro. It detracts from your good points made.

ozzie, i have a problem with. I also have a problem with fans that are blind to the fact that Ozzie hasn’t done a very good job 3 of the last 4 seasons.

Numbers suggest he's done just fine.
He’s done better than average most years. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. You’re just blinded by your dislike of the man to the point you don’t realize almost all managers make mistakes, and compared to most he’s done a solid job.

it was pretty uncharacteristic really.
he hadnt had a season like that since his sox debut in 04. im not saying he didnt have a sick year, but i doubt he does it again next year. his home splits are actually nasty this year: .346/.385/.582/.967
