Chip Caray Is Terrible At What He Does
And Richard Sandomir doesn't mind pointing it out. And this is not the first time Mr. Sandomir's attention has been turned upon the old Chiperoo. This article, from 1 day shy of 2 years ago, is also wonderful.
"No announcer is perfect. A mistake now and then is expected. The best ones realize that they’ve made errors and often do their best to fix them quickly......Then there is Chip Caray...."

Indeed
Or if Peterson's "troublesome" back gives out. Because he's, you know, carrying the team. And some of those guys are heavy.

yep
Dodgers first, for Jim Thome. If not them, then the Rockies for Todd Helton.

So, was Harry Caray any more accurate?
Chip is just not charismatic, and thus the errors are not part of the fun. The NYT guy is also a DB. But he has a point – Chip needs to work harder on being well informed and presenting useful, entertaining information.

don't count me as one of the people
that thought listening to harry caray, towards the end specifically, was fun. so if chip was drunk in addition to being a buffoon that would be better? you don’t value accurate and relevant announcing? plus, harry hasn’t made a single mistake in over ten years!

Train wrecks are fun, yes, for those observing
with little at risk. He was no more accurate when he was with the Sox as compard to his Cub years, just was drunker towards the end much more frequently.
I loved Harry’s Sox years.

What is so fun about listening to terrible broadcasting?
I endure Hawk because he’s not going anywhere, and there is a certain charm to liking a man that is universally despised by baseball fans. But, if the Sox were to bring in someone better, I’d be ecstatic.
As for the playoffs, I feel like the home games should just be given to that team’s TV crew. Objectivity is a thing of the past anyways, might as well let each fanbase enjoy their guys for a few games.

You are young and idealistic.
Baseball is a fun game. It’s fun to have someone humorous butcher shit, as long as they are not arrogant about it. You had to hear Harry and be a part of it to get it.

You didn't like Harry?
When Harry and Piersall went at it, it was high art. Some people inform and are elegant about it, some people are goofs and entertain. You take your informaton, I take my entertainment.
I believe we can agree Chip Caray does neither.
