Facebook Users: Beware New Privacy Changes
On Wednesday morning, users began seeing a message offering a new, simplified privacy settings page and the ability to set specific options for every post made to Facebook.
The changes, first announced this summer, again promised last week, and available today, give users much tighter control of who sees what, down to the individual reader, if desired.
Especially important is the new "everyone" setting that determines whether a Facebook post will be seen on other services, such as in Google search results.

nope. only facepalm for me!
I provided the link because so many of our youngsters are into social networks, and they may not realize the dangers that lurk there… especially from the older predators like WU.
The youth must be protected/nurtured until they have learned to fish for themselves. It says so in the bible.

I am on Teh Facebook.
I monitor your daughter’s every move. So you don’t have to. :) (Actually, I now get to keep up with my ex-girlfriends from high school who are living lives in luxury and are incredibly blessed they didn’t stay with me.)
"don tink about new jork. jus come in ready to wing de gay."
The ankle bracelet works well too.
As for the ex-gf’s, this is the predator behavior I was talking about!!!!!

Hey, they came after me.
And they’re freaking 52 years old!

Wait a minute.... I'm pissed. I just went into the "new" privacy settings when I was prompted this morning and there are only TWO options for
“who can add me as a friend”….
“Friends of Friends” or “Everyone” (ie; the whole fucking world).
Before, I had that set to NOFUCKINGBODY so I have never in my fb experience received a single friend request.
Now, fb isn’t giving me the option…
Not picky, but very sticky....
If you're not careful, fb, you're going to lose me.

“The new setting[s] are ridiculous,” commented user Victoria Anne Archer. “I have less control than before and my friends are visible to everyone … I can’t hide them … but I have no choice … because if I select only friends … then NO ON[E] CAN FIND ME!”
What is getting the thumbs-up
The most commended aspect of the new settings is that they allow users to micromanage who can access every bit of information on the site.
One way to do so is to separate your friends into lists and grant those lists varying levels of accessibility.
For example, if you would rather your bosses not know what you do on downtime, you can place them on a specially created list.
In addition, a user can specify accessibility post by post.
After each status update you type or photo you post, you can pick from a drop-down menu whether you want that item visible to everyone, to just your friends, or to friends of friends as well.

That's great and all.... for the people who want to micro-manage their fb! I was perfectly happy being completely hidden...as was my friend list. This is stupid.

won't the facebook traffic increase if users can't remain hidden?
sounds like it though I’m not sure since I haven’t used the thing
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
White Sox news, Minor Leagues updates and more
UPDATE: As several commenters below noted, there is one other step you can take. Under Privacy Settings go to “Search” and change “Facebook Search Results” to either “Friends” or “Friends of Friends”. This way strangers searching for your name on Facebook can’t find you, or your profile pic. I still think Facebook’s new settings stink — and I think it’s bad, given it made all profile pics public, not to highlight this option more clearly. But it does mean things aren’t quite as bad as I initially feared.

I've got that set already to "only friends" but that only covers the search engine thing. What about the 10,000+ "friends of friends" who can now see me, my friend list, and my profile pic, AND send me friend requests...
It just seems like if this was really a method to better control privacy, they wouldn’t remove some of my basic privacy rights!

I think fb is mostly evil if not used properly, and being able to stay hidden on it and know who is viewing my info is a big deal to me.

ahh k. As long as I have my long rifle and SSS, I'm coo'. :)
I just sent my “feedback” on the whole topic, to fb.
It’s funny because most people I come across on fb have shit set to “friends of friends” – sounds like such an innocent setting, right!?!
WRONG!
I don’t know who the fuck my friends have befriended.
Thousands upon thousands of strangers….

You don't get my feelings about this. Most don't, which is why most don't give a shit and most won't want to shut down their entire page, feeling their privacy has been violated.

Check out this load of crap
“People come to Facebook to connect and share, not to hide,” Schnitt said. “When users find their friends or are found by friends, they get a much better experience and that is what they want.”
Don’t fucking tell me what makes this a better experience for ME, Schnitt.
I had a good experience going.
And now I’m ready to delete my entire page, you fucking monkey taint.
