Bidding War!!
Scott Podsednik has a new suitor, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The Tigers, who just traded away their regular center fielder, join the White Sox, Cubs, Giants and Royals in the hunt for Podsednik’s services. As Rosenthal says, Podsednik can play center or left and lead off. He could give the Tigers depth while Austin Jackson develops.

The 33-year-old Podsednik hit .304/.353/.412 last year in 587 plate appearances for the White Sox, splitting his time between left and center. He was slightly below average as an outfielder, according to UZR/150.

Kenny bids .50!

See, this is what happens when the Sox bunt.
Discord is sown. Brother fights brother. Misunderstandings abound.

Austin Jackson= Made up name. Originally the dead stock car driver from a Walker Texas Ranger mystery.

Sickels seems pretty high on Mitchell's potential

which makes me smile.

This weather does not. Walked 3 blocks to the gym and in that time the water in my water bottle was turning to ice.

Isn't that walk in this cold a work out in itself?

I was disappointed in life when I walked the 10 feet out to my car today, I can’t imagine 3 blocks.

I did that a few years ago, but it was in feb or march.

colder water, but warmer air (though it was still snowing then). was a good time. is that some sponsored event or just a group of ppl that show up and do it?

by Trooper on Dec 10, 2009 1:52 PM CST up reply actions

The one on NYD is a non-charity function-

just a bunch of folks showing up- no registration/fundraising required. Very un-managed event.

There is a fundraiser in march for the special olympics, but FSO- let them raise their own money by getting a job.

by Trooper on Dec 10, 2009 2:12 PM CST up reply actions

Real answer, for Chicago specifically:
While there are many fantastic charities that raise money for good causes, the LPBC raises money for a specific family because it allows us to truly make a difference in one family’s life each year. This year, they will be helping the Nate Jones and the Pond Family. Brian Marchal is the founder and organizer of the Lakeview Polar Bear Club. If you can only make one polar bear swim event this year, we suggest the Lakeview Polar Bear Club’s event.

I get the feeling that today may be the day the Sox make their first real trade of the offseason,

Kenny’s comments yesterday would lead most to believe the contrary, which is exactly why today may be the day.

Rafael Soriano traded to the Rays

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4730636

"...but the devil lives inside this kid, I swear it. It rises out of him in a mist, this baby-faced defiant wrathful version of Pat Kane, escapes his bodily confines to perform satanic miracles all over the offensive zone. The only thing more fearsome than that assist was the keep-in preceding it. The only thing more unholy than his face is his black magic." GMH

so

are the astros the worst run organization in baesball? because WTF were they thinking when they gave brandon lyon a 3 year deal? besides having the worst farm system in baseball, they have no left side of the infield, 2/5ths of a rotation, and now have a pretty expensive, marginal closer.

well, the astros traded for lindstrom, so i would guess he'll be closing

but yes, 15 mil for 3 years for lyons has the appearance of being idiotic.

Tampa Bay acquired Soriano from the Braves

so it looks like Jenks won’t be dealt to the Rays now.

after the rays owner said there wouldnt be any 7 million dollar closers on the team. so either hes a liar or soriano’s not closing.

Interesting because Jim Tyree (new S-T owner) is a HUGE Sox fan.

Maybe the Trib digs are Cowley’s attempt to please the boss?
With a little luck though, Tyree hates Cowley…

BB is finish - it's all over folks
"I’m sure if they gave him two weeks in a cage, he’d be hitting amongst the best in the game right now," Borris said. "But Major League Baseball will never give him that chance."

Borris wouldn’t address a possible collusion case against MLB, but the players’ union continues to consider it.

In 23 seasons, Bonds had 762 homers, 1,996 RBIs and a .444 on-base percentage.

"If they would have let Barry play baseball until his on-base percentage dropped below .400, he probably would’ve been playing until he was 56," Borris said.

Putz worked out for the cubs on Wednesday and will do so again on Friday. Upwards of six or seven other teams have also watched Putz work out. The former Seattle and Mets relief pitcher will most likely get an incentive-laden contract that could start at around $2.5 million and can realize another $6 or $7 million with incentives. The White Sox have been the most aggressive team on Putz and have already made an offer to his agent Craig Landis.
