White Sox sign Ben Broussard
The White Sox signed first baseman-outfielder Ben Broussard to a minor league contract.
Broussard, 32, has a lifetime .263 batting average with 87 home runs over parts of seven major league seasons with Cleveland, Seattle and Texas. He batted .159 with three home runs in 82 at-bats with the Rangers last season.
Broussard also played in the minor leagues last season with the New York Yankees and Cubs.
Broussard becomes the 19th non-roster invitee in the Sox's spring training camp.
The left-handed hitting Broussard enjoyed his best season in 2006 with Cleveland and Seattle, batting .289 with 21 home runs and 63 RBIs.

to have someone to play first for the knights.
duh. miss the minor league deal part?
our schtick is old
But...
Couldn’t the sox get a better veteran to help the young players learn how to hit. And i don’t think he did that good in the minor last season either.
The Trade-Maker
i think they want someone who will help the young players by catching the ball at first base.
and, you’re right. there’s no way the knights will win the international league next year by making these kinds of moves. re-signing brad eldred would have been worth 1, maybe 2, wins over broussard.

Broussard?
Unless the Sox signed him for 300k, this is a bad contract. He might get a little value in the majors if he gets 45 at bats in september.
The Trade-Maker
the minor leagues are also professional.
and, using us cellular as the ballpark, your estimate would be somewhere in iowa. the minimum for a player like broussard who has “played proball earlier” is $65K. if they’re paying him $235K more than that, the white sox should quit saying they have no money to spend.
"Still, there is considerable evidence that Mr. Williams was truly sick, including the fact that he has since died."
True, true
But isn’t the minimum for major league contracts, if you play at all, 356k, if he gets even 1 atbat, won’t he have to get payed the league minimum.
The Trade-Maker
minor league contract. not on 40 man roster. unless a bunch of people die or something, broussard will not play in the majors.
White Sox Outsider 2009 is the greatest book about the White Sox, published in 2009, and written by a guy who likes hanging around statues. Ever.
As I said yesterday, you've been missed.
What were your Getz projections, dasox?
the post wasn't for you. fuck off.

you're overlooking something important
Broussard is also an accomplished musician, and he recently put out his first CD.

kenny needed someone at the horns for the band
The greatest trick the White Sox ever pulled was convincing their fan base that "Ozzieball" ever existed.
